Meh....Briggs is a helluva player, not to mention the Cush will win many more in the future. You can only win Defensive Rookie of the Year once (or in Cushes case, twice).

Steelers' Harrison earns another honor
Thursday, May 13, 2010
Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
More than four months after the 2009 season ended, Steelers linebacker James Harrison earned another honor.

Harrison joined teammate LaMarr Woodley on the Associated Press All-Pro second team as a result of an unprecedented revote conducted this week.

The AP called for a revote of the 50 media members on its panel after the NFL suspended linebacker Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans for the first four games of the season for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2009. Cushing won the NFL defensive player of the year award in the original AP vote in a landslide, and earned enough votes to be placed on the All-Pro second team.

Ballots were recast for the rookie of the year award and for the outside linebackers on the All-Pro team. Cushing remained the winner of the rookie award in a much closer vote, but lost his spot on the All-Pro team.

In the new count, Harrison and Lance Briggs of the Chicago Bears tied for fourth behind Woodley and all three are on the All-Pro second team.

Harrison was first-team All-Pro in 2008 when he won the NFL defensive player of the year award. He also has made the past three Pro Bowls.

Shouldn't Cushing lose his AFC defensive player of the week awards, after the Bills and the Bengals games? If they are that obsessed with removing Cushing's name from the annals of the league.

I wouldn't bank on that. It's going to take many more seasons of sustained success before the AP is willing change their perception of him and vote for him.

As long as he produces UPTO the same level or near, he will win them. Case in point----->Julius Peppers.

Also as long as never fails another test again.

We win a super bowl, and Cushing destroys a few enemy offensive guys, all will be forgiven.

I just think its funny the NFL had to include to players to replace Cushing, fitting back-handed compliment. Here is hoping the attention Cushing received can be turned into positive results for the Texans as in focusing more on team accolades as oppossed to individual awards. I'm not just talking about making the playoffs, I'm talking Superbowl & when Cushing wins MVP Goodell gets a taste of his own performance enhancing comeuppance

Time will tell, but I disagree. Failing a drug test for ephedrine (or whatever Peppers failed for) in 2002 and steroids (or what's perceived to be a steroidal compliment) in 2010 is apples and organges, IMO.

Due to all of the recount drama, I get the feeling that a lot of the AP folks will be holding Cushing under a lot of extra scrutiny.

The NFL would probably have the game played again without Cush, to see the difference he makes.

The fact that Kevin Williams is still an All-Pro makes the AP look like a bunch of hypocrites.

Brian Cushing Named Second Team All-Pro

By playerpress.com wire service / January 14, 2010
At this point, no one should be surprised.

With the postseason honors already collected by Houston Texans rookie Brian Cushing, there was hardly a blink of an eye today when he was selected Second Team All-Pro as an outside linebacker.

The honor puts Cushing, the Texans’ first-round pick (15th overall) in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of USC, among the top four outside linebackers in the NFL after just one season as a professional. He was the only rookie selected All-Pro for the 2009 season.

“I’m just beyond happy and honored to be named to an All-Pro team and have the respect of the voters,” Cushing said. “That is more powerful than any dollar can buy. You play to be good and respected and hopefully to be remembered after your playing days are over.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with how my first year was and the start of my NFL career.”

Cushing already was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and was selected to represent the AFC at the Pro Bowl on Jan. 31. He was also named NFL Defensive Player of the Month for November.

In Rookie of the Year balloting, Cushing was a runaway winner. He received 39 votes, easily beating out Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd, who intercepted nine passes this season and earned six votes. Cushing became the second Texans linebacker in four seasons to win the award. His mentor, DeMeco Ryans, who will join him in the Pro Bowl, won the award in 2006.

Cushing also was named AFC Rookie of the Month for October and twice was named Defensive Rookie of the Week.

Cushing, who will turn 23 on Jan. 24, led the AFC in tackles this season with 134, 87 of them primary. He also had five sacks, four interceptions, forced two fumbles and recorded one safety. He played through cracked ribs with a flak jacket the last two games of the season and fought through ankle and knee pain most of the season.

The Texans went 9-7, the first winning record in franchise history, but missed the playoffs despite winning their final four games.

“Brian is a special player,” Ryans said. “I saw when he first stepped on the field that he could be a special player for us. Just to watch him grow week-in and week-out, I’m just so proud of him. He’s like my little brother out there. I’m always out there talking to him about how we can be great as a unit. I say it to him every week, ‘Let’s go out and be great and be the best linebackers in the league.’ ”

My understanding of steroids (the reason he should have been using the masking HcG) is the body rapidly drops back to pre-use. Can you clarify or anyone?
