Default Andre Davis - 2010 Outlook

I remember last year Andre was pretty sub-par at KR last year, the year before he had a solid year. With Holiday being brought in, I could see Andre losing out that battle. Holiday presents more of a threat, at least compared to last year's version of AD.

At WR, Jacoby is progressing, Walter battled some injury issues last year but will be back to 100% this year, and I think Dickerson will win a roster spot. Dorin is fast, physical, and should be hungry to make a name for himself after dropping to 7th in a draft where a large number of TEs were taken, even though he isn't a true TE.

So what do you think Andre's odds are at making the squad? If Andre makes it who is the odd man out? What's your order of WRs?

Just like anyone else if he has better camp than any of the others listed above he will make the team. That being said, here is my 2010 WR outlook.
1. A.J.
2. K.W.
3. J.J.
4. Dickerson
5. D.A.

I think this year they will have him listed on the depth chart first string KOR and first string PR. On the roster this may be the first year we see KR/PR

I believe the drafting of Dorin Dickerson and Holliday it really puts Andre Davis and David Anderson on the bubble. Holliday to me is the interesting one in all this. Kubiak stated that this is a player who can help us in the return game, line up in the slot or even line up in the backfield as a tailback. This means he provides more versatility than Davis and Anderson. Having a true PR/KR also helps the Jacoby Jones project as now Jacoby gets to concentrate on being a WR and we all saw what he can do to our offense if he's concentrating on being a WR. It also means we can not have to worry about going to cardiac arrest when Jacoby goes back to catch a punt.

The fact that Dickerson is a bigger WR also puts Davis and Anderson on the bubble too because Dickerson is going to be one of those guys we use in the redzone. Anderson doesn't help us a whole lot in the redzone and Davis hasn't been that great there either.

I'd hate to lose guys like Davis and Anderson because they've proven to be helpful. Davis did great when Andre went down, and Anderson did too. Anderson is also a great locker room kind of guy. However, if our strength is going to be our passing game, our WR outside of Andre Johnson have got to be challenged all the time.

Kubiak mentioned him at RB....and certain WR positions. So who knows at this point. I reckon he'll be listed as a back, but might play the slot a time or few. I just hope he works out, the dude's like one of those waterbugs when he has the ball in his hands.

I think Davis is a goner. He looked skittish on kick returns last season. He was afraid to take the big hit!

Short receiver lined up in the slot? That sounds like Anderson's role to me.

I guess if they are going to make him a RB he will not threaten Anderson but I'm thinking they are going to put him at WR.

He could be like this guy which wouldn't be too bad:

Sorry, pic not work...

He may very well get a few snaps at slot. I just don't think he will get a lot this year. DA will be the primary slot reciever, but just like last year occasionally AJ or KW or a back will be there.

I am trying to say that DA's roster spot is not in jeopardy for this year unless something dramatic happens. Long term...?

Andersen is a first down machine (between the 20's). I dont see him as being on the bubble at all - Although I do see Andre' Davis and Glenn Martinez being behind the 8ball.

That is exactly what I saw last season as well. He decelerated when he saw contact coming and by the time it got there he was well on his way down. This is a spot where we can easily upgrade our physicality/toughness just by removing a player. If you go back and watch the games again it seems like his weak returns set the tone early in some of our games. That's on the offense too, but getting rid of him is a no brainer for me.

Andre Davis was the first on my list to get cut this offseason. His salary compared to what we're getting in return is awful and there will be no effect to the salary cap (non existent). I suspect he'll be part of the team over the next few months and through camp but will get released fairly early. Kubiak tends to let veterans go early out of respect so they have a better chance of landing on another team. Davis seems to be a quality guy and I wish him the best.... just know if he plays against us this season, Kareem Jackson will shut him down.
