Positives: Adequately sized cornerback with a solid game. Fluid pedaling in reverse, smooth turning his hips and very quick transitioning to run downfield opponents. Shows ability backed off the line of scrimmage and possesses a good break to the ball out of his plant. Displays solid hands for the interception. Physical and will mix it up throughout routes. Wraps up tackling.

Negatives: Struggles getting off blocks and loses out in battles. Marginal top end speed and really does not show the ability to recover.

Analysis: McManis has been a solid player for Northwestern the past three seasons and offers possibilities as a dime back/return specialist at the next level. Lacks the great upside yet does enough things well to make an NFL team.

Projection: 6-7

With Tennant still on the board, C out of Boston College, I'm just confused with these picks. This looks like another reach

I'm not going to knock the players the Texans are taking but all of them after Ben Tate except for Garrett Graham seem to be a reach for the round we are picking in. They must have some ol and dl guys that they feel are going to be there in rounds 6 & 7 or go undrafted.

"Reach" is defined in terms of comparing a professional draft board to the boards of a bunch of amateurs. Every board you're looking at that tells you where someone is projected is a non-professional board. Remember that.

All the boards that are on the internet projecting picks are boards where people are trying to figure out where guys will be drafted. If guys are not drafted there, it's because of failings in the boards that you're reading on the internet not necessarily failings in the 32 boards that really count.

The fact that Tennant is dropping this far tells you that NO ONE has liked him so far. So he's not as good (or as prized) as the amateurs thought.

Or has injury or character concerns that fans aren't privileged to. There's a lot of information out there. But, not all. And NFL teams have it all.

The complete neglect of the S position with the Simithiak regime just pisses me off. It's frigging ridiculous. We were gifted Bernie Pollard last year otherwise we would have had the worst Safeties in the NFL. My God, Busing was forced to start after Eugene Wilson got hurt. That guy couldn't cover a paper bag.

I'm convinced we'll take a FS in the first two rounds next year. This year, all of the quality FS prospects were gone by the end of the 3rd round, and no one available in the 4th would be "the answer" at FS. None of them would be likely to beat out Wilson.

If you have to choose between weakness at CB, RB, DT or FS I think FS is the position that gets put off.

Next year, I think they'll draft FS in the first two rounds and C, G and/or OT in the first 3 rounds, depending upon available talent. Next year will be their first opportunity to draft upgrades instead of filling holes.

I think we have to wait and see what develops before we talk about what we're drafting next year.

With Wilson, we've got some time to try to develop someone. That someone may already be on the squad (or at least picked.) McMannis could be our FS of the future, or it could be Troy Nolan or Brice McCain. We need to wait and see how this falls out.

People said this last year also... methinks this organization is not willing to spend a premium pick on the safety position. They are confident in their ability to find players on the street and in late rounds. The top 3 safeties on the roster: Bernard Pollard and Eugene Wilson (street), Domonique Barber (6th round pick).

They will draft CBs like nobodies business but feel they can find capable players at safety without spending premium draft capital.

Everybody also said that this organization is unwilling to take a RB with a high pick. I don't think there is any position that this organization is willing to look at, I just think that they aren't willing to pick players that simply play in the position of need. They have proven that they will skip over players that are the more popular pick to go with guys that have character and fit into their system.
