Default I've been looking @ the Browns board...

They are talking about not wanting the #3 pick and trading to mid first round for a pass rusher or a lineman, so how about this.....

I know they say the Browns want DJ but why draft to your strength when you have so many other weaknesses? The LB core of the Browns is the least of their problems. If they do stay @ #3 I think they will pick either B. Edwards or more likly than not Ronnie Brown.

If they do want to trade down, since J. Sharper is on the trading block and the browns are switching to the 3-4 we trade J. Sharper, the #13 pick, and maybe our 3b pick, for the #3 pick in the draft to pick up DJ. It could happen and if we are getting rid of sharper then we might as well try to get max value from his replacement in the draft. Ditto to this trade to any other team with a top 5 pick.

What do you think about this idea?

Sounds good to me, I dont think the Browns would mind an extra pick or two along with Sharper.

thats an interesting scenario.. I think we would be slightly overpaying by giving our #13, Sharper, and a #3... also.. it would really suck to do that then have DJ get drafted at #1 or #2..

but, it is the best scenario ive heard so far.

Overpaying just a little i think, but it would be worth it. Sharper is on the decline and we would be adding some youth with DJ who is expected to evolve into a stud throughtout his career. Sharper would also release alot of cap room. I would love for this deal to follow through, too bad i don't make the decisions though.

As for DJ being picked up at 1 or 2. San Francisco is most likely to pick up a QB which they really need and Miami will take a RB unless they pick someone up in FA which i think is highly doubtful. So if we were to move up to the 3rd pick I think it would be pretty safe to say that we'd take DJ.

that 3rd rounder is just a conditional add-inn not necessarily a must have, the reason I added it was because I didnt know the values of what we are trading, and if Sharper and #13 werent enough, then the 3b definately put it the two sides at least equal.

We would basically be trading Sharper for DJ straight up. The only problem is there is no guarantee we will get him at number 3 and that would be horrible. We would be stuck with the number 3 pick and not getting the player we wanted.

It is being discussed however the Texans are looking hard at Cedric Benson for that pick.

I'm a texas boy and i love Benson, but I think Ronnie Brown will end up being the better back. IMHO

Discussed by who? Domanick Davis is our RB of the future. Besides why would we waste our pick on a RB who couldnt catch a cold knowing that David Carr loves to throw to his RB?

I would first get Sharper's contract re-worked to be more cap friendly and movable to another team, if the Texans even have to eat money to make it work I doubt that would be a problem. I would have all the details worked out and agreed upon prior to draft day with open comminication with the Browns & wait until that 3rd pick to be sure DJ was still available.

Where does the perception that Benson "can't catch a cold" come from?

Can't catch the flu?? Benson can catch the ball out of the back field. I don't disagree with Ronnie Brown or DJ or anybody else. I'm not saying that's what we should do, just what's being discussed.

Like I'm sure they are discussing many other options. I just heard this today from Lance Z on 610 and he said that an inside source told him that they Texans were looking seriously at Benson which means they are preparing to move up. Whether that with Cleveland at #3 or Miami at #2, I don't know.

People are so taken by the combine. It seems like the combine clouds people's minds and causes them to lose their sanity. Which is greater 4 years of actual game film and research or a few days of intense tests on a guy?

Also, I don't want to see us host the Senior Bowl again. We seemed to overvalue guys we saw there (Wand and Joppru to name a couple). A mid 2nd round pick for Joppru when Witten was on the board? I thought it was a bad choice then, and it seems even worse now.

Exactly what I was thinking on draft day. Hopefully, Joppru turns out ok.

Such a trade would probably be cut on draft day when the Browns hit the clock. Of course, everything would be worked out in advance on the assumption that the player would be there - but if the time came and he wasn't, no deal. Happens all the time, just usually for picks rather than a player.

Benson had 179 total recieving yards in 2004 and was thrown to 61 times. That means per each time he was thrown to, on average he gained 2.9 yards. That just isnt effective. That may be the reason he only had 179 recieving yards.

maybe....
