Faster than expected 40 time for Angerer and a 39 inch vertical!!! I was holding out hope we could grab him as BPA late in the draft but i'm not so sure now. Heck of a player and I guess he can perform in shorts too. Posted better numbers than AJ Edds who was thought to be the far superior athlete. Moeaki did well. An OD clone basically. Disappointing offseason numbers from Spievey. He's a good player on film though, maybe we can nab him later in the draft to compete with Molden and Bennett for 2 roster spots. Anyone think we might draft a Hawkeye this year? One of the best defenses in the nation, in my biased opinion they were the best considering they had a terrible offense except for crunch time (at least when Stanzi wasn't injured. 2 losses came when backup freshmen was in) and had to carry the team to wins so often.

I have been pushing for Angerer for some time now, this is disappointing (from a Texans point of view), I really wanted the Texans to grab him in the 5th, thats not happening now.

For those of you who would like to quantify how well Angerer ran today. The Hawkeyes MLB was expected to perform poorly in shorts and that combined with his smallish 6'nothin 230 pound body should have his draft stock settle around the late rounds (he's got 1st day football instincts imo).
However, Angerer ran 4.65 and 4.64 in the 40 AND posted a 39 inch vertical/ 9'3" broad jump!!! Our DROY Brian Cushing ran a 4.66 at his pro day and posted a 35" vertical. I have such great manlove for Angerer that I wouldn't mind at all if the Texans surprise us all and draft him in the 3rd round to turn him into a WILL and have him compete with Diles. But that's mostly the homer in me talking.... The realist in me was hoping the critics were right about his workout numbers so we could get him in the late rounds. Even if he isn't a big time contributor on defense he's gonna be a monster on special teams for some lucky team.

WalterFootball has him rated as 3rd to 4th round prospect. I doubt he'll last into the 4th round, and I doubt the Texans will take him in the 3rd. Just too many other needs. But who knows, they've surprised me before!

Except you don't draft blidly for need when superior talent is avaliable. I think Diles could be upgraded with a play maker. Just my .02 cents

I've heard Smith say (sorry, can't remember where) they will draft their highest rated player at a need position. I can't say for sure that they won't take Angerer in the 3rd or 4th round if he's still there, but since LB is one of their more talented groups, the likely-hood of them taking him goes down. Now a situation like the James Casey pick last year could come up where they have Angerer rated so high and he slips to a later round and becomes too good to pass on. I could see that happening.

I think the Tampa Bay Bucs might grab him in the 3rd round, he seems to fit their style of defense.

Someone is getting a heck of a football player. AJ Edds is also a heck of a player (best coverage LB in the nation).
Lots of talent on the Hawkeyes. And still, they've got guys like Clayborn and Sash on defense staying another year!!!

Wanting to replace Diles? Sup with that? Diles is just fine as our WILL, if you ask me. Heck, our WILL comes off the field in nickel defense. We're in nickel darn near half the time due to so many pass happy teams these days.
