Default Semi-preposterous Trade Guy's Idea

Trade entire draft for Suh. DL = fixed. Sign Rolle for FS got plenty of money to sign a decent CB, Chester Taylor/Thomas Jones, and a OL guy or two.

Quin - Rolle - Pollard - Reeves
Diles - Ryans - Cushing
Williams - Suh - Okoye - Smith/Barwin

Yeah I'll take that.

Yeah I'll take that.
If our front office was known for spending money on FAs I'd say you have an outside chance of that happening.

It does make sense and I certainly would be happy with Suh but with this year being such a "make or break" season, I don't think Smithiak goes for it.

Hmmm....I'd spend ALMOST our entire draft on Eric Berry and then find that late round DT gem.

I'd go Eric Berry too. Love Suh, but Berry is just the complete package at FS. We are manageable at DT right now, but we really need a playmaking FS.

The percentage of first round DTs that are "can't miss prospects" and end up turning into huge busts is enormous. Its the MOST missed "can't miss" other than QB in the 1st round.

The percentage of first round Safeties that are "can't miss prospects" and end up turning into busts is tiny. I think its the LEAST missed "can't miss"

As good as Suh looks, remember how good previous DTs have looked. He hasn't played a down in the NFL, and he's got a legitimate chance of doing nothing.

Berry would be a much safer bet, but even then its a very risky propposition

Berry is the best player in this draft. He can and has played CB and both S positions.

If he falls out of the top 10 (wont happen) I would be willing to switch spots in the 1st rd and trade a 3rd rd pick along with a 2011 2nd for Berry.

That's how much I think of Berry.

Yep, here's a list of the DT's and Nose Tackles taken in the top 10 picks over the last 10 years (2000 - 2009):

Corey Simon (#6 in 2000)
Gerrard Warren (#3 in 2001)
Richard Seymour (#6 in 2001)
Ryan Sims (#6 in 2002)
John Henderson (#9 in 2002)
DeWayne Robertson (#4 in 2003)
Jonathan Sullivan(#6 in 2003)
Amobi Okoye (#10 in 2007)
Glenn Dorsey (#5 in 2008)
Sedrick Ellis(#7 in 2008)
B.J. Raji (#9 in 2009)

Gerrard Warren, Ryan Sims, DeWayne Robertson and Jonathon Sullivan are some of the top-10 busts of all time. While I believe Amobi's probably a season short of being a complete bust, there's a number of people on this MB who would tell you I'm being far too generous in that assessment, and Glenn Dorsey's in grave danger of being added to the Warren, Sims, Robertson, Sullivan group.

On top of that, no matter how good they are, DT's are not game-changers - and you don't give up your entire draft for a position that's not game-changing.

It would take the suspense out of the draft.

I think we need to go on a mission to get info out there on everything Suh and Berry did wrong growing up in an attempt to get teams to pass on them.

Anyone got any dirt?

Default Re: Semi-preposterous Trade Guy's Idea

Here's a scenario: word is that the Jags really want to trade down out of the #10 slot for two reasons: (1) they are hurting very badly financially and would rather not pay someone in the #10 slot and (2) they know they have to get Tebow one way or another but they simply cannot invest the #10 in him. The Jags traded their 2nd rounder in last year's draft, so they need to get back into the second to get a better shot at Tebow (or, if they're that desperate, take him at 20).

Going by the draft value chart, the #10 pick is 1300 while our #20 is 850. If we traded that and our 2nd rounder, we'd be giving up 1240 for 1300--reasonable value. While the Jags may be desperate, they probably won't be so desperate to settle for just a third-rounder (total of 1030 points for 1300). And if somone truly enticing is still on the board, you can bet another team will come up with a better offer.

So here's the question: what players, if they were available at #10 would be worth giving up #20 and our second-rounder to a divisional rival for? I thought of this because I saw a mock somewhere at a major site that had Berry lasting to #10. If that actually happens, I'd gladly send our 1 and 2 to the Jags.

There are only a handful of players I would consider trading up for: Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, Eric Berry & Joe Haden. They're all at a position of need. If Houston wasn't set at LB I would consider Rolando Mccain too. I don't know too much about each of the OT prospects to say I would consider it yet.

I would trade a 1 and a two for Berry. No doubt, he would be worth it.

I think our team can still get really good players at 20 and I'm not going to help a division rival be able to get out of what ever cap hell they are in now.
