Default AJ:Texans draft watch: CB Dominique Franks

Quote:
Continuing our draft watch series, let's take a look at junior cornerback Dominique Franks from Oklahoma.

The Texans primary needs entering the 2010 draft are at running back, free safety, interior offensive lineman, defensive tackle and cornerback assuming Dunta Robinson leaves in free agency.

Franks is one of several corners that will be available from the late first through the second round.

Just weeks before declaring for the draft Franks said publicly that he was planning to return for his senior season.

Franks' projection from NFL Draft Scout (see below) is currently late first to third round grade, with the most likely being late first to second round..

According to John E. Hoover of Tulsa World, the NFL's College Advisory Committee returned a third-round projection on Franks, although in this article by Jake Trotter of NewsOK.com, the committee gave Franks a second round grade. ESPN's Todd McShay said in Hoover's article that "I think he'll probably be a second-round pick if everything works out really well and everything comes together."

By 'everything,' McShay means that he performs well at the combine - not just in the 40, but in all drills including backpedal and footwork, ball skills, testing and interviews.

I don't think so. Franks has that tall, lean Chris Dishman look to him. Strictly a corner.
