Texans quick reference guide: wins and losses against the league

One of the most valid points brought up during the debate of whether or not Gary Kubiak deserved what amounts to a two-year contract extension, is the Texans record against the division during his tenure.

Kubiak's 7-17 record against AFC South opponents (4-14 in the last three seasons) remains the biggest sticking point for many when the subject of Kubiak's new deal comes up.

I agree with Kubiak deserving 2010 but it's a year to year thing for me at this point. What happens when the Texans go 8-8 again next year? Are we going to cite the Texans league toughest schedule? I sure hope not.

All this talk about win-loss records prompted me to pull together some W/L stats in one place.

A natural question is why are the Texans so good against the rest of the league and so terrible against teams within their own division? Some theorize it's because the AFC South is one of the toughest divisions in the league. That's fallen into lame excuse territory for me. Some may say it's because the Texans played weak competition outside of the division. Well, they did. But so did a lot of other teams in the NFL You don't have the luxury to pick the teams on your schedule.

I'm not denying that was a good read. Lots of interesting "stats" that I never put together before.

But just because my daughter couldn't ride a bike last year, doesn't mean that she won't be able to ride a bike this year. Heck, she might even be a BMX champion next year.

Thunder, we don't always agree, but you made me laugh out loud. I think your analogy is off - your daughter will eventually learn to ride the bike because of natural human development - but I understand the point you were trying to make. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

in terms of the AFC south

Peyton wips all 3 teams

and Jags tenn and texans all wip each other year in and year out thats why sometimes teh Jags Texans and tenn all miss the playoffs

This is a team sport. The Saints beat the Colts, not Peyton Manning.

The Texans will beat the Colts..... It's not Mario, or Demeco against Peyton. It's the Texans against the Colts, & we will beat them.

If Gary Kubiak is teaching her how to ride that bike I wouldn't go out of your way to make space on the mantle for that BMX trophy just yet. You might be sitting around .500 for quite some time.

Whoa....

as far as teaching(coaching) our guys how to play the game, I think Kubiak has done an excellent job. The stats(which are for losers) show that.

In my analogy, Kubiak is learning to ride the bike, & that trophy is the Lombardi.
