Default Roger Craig

Looking at the 9ers vs. Bengals Super Bowl and noticing the very familiar looks between our offense and both the 9ers and Bengals. I did however, notice that their running backs look a bit different than ours. Their running backs are every down kind of backs but they are very slim and don't look like the big 260 pounder that most would figure an everydown back to be. They both have very good hands too and Roger Craig is a very tough running back.

Are there any Roger Craig type runningbacks in this draft?

Funny thing Roger Craig was a FB his 1st couple of year in the league. They made him the RB when Tyler left the team. The original FB and RB where much more versatile then the Shanahan/Kubiak version of the WCO.

Craig was a special player and as such not many backs have been able to duplicate his style.

FB has become a throw away position in the NFL, a stupid move if you ask me. Taking a guy like Casey, a guy who can run the ball, block or catch the ball is what a FB should be, not a freak of nature with no neck and no way to touch his own nose.

Hopefully someone rediscovers the FB in the NFL.

Craig went 220 lbs. He may have lined up as a FB at times but he wasn't one. The idea of 235+ RBs as the mold for an every down back is a fan myth more than a reflection of actual NFL players.

Craig was a very talented back...but he was never a fullback per se...sometimes he lined up in that position b/c he could block very well...but he was indeed a RB...during those early years with the 49ers they wanted both playmakers on the field so Tyler and Craig lined up...Bill Ring was the true FB on that squad

That was the other thing I noticed about the Bengals offense. At times they would have Icky Woods and James Brooks lined up in the back field with James Brooks lined up as the FB. He would then split wide but you really never knew how was getting the ball.

I wonder what kind of production we would have if we did that with Steve Slaton and Arian Foster.

I still want to know. Is there a RB in this draft that fits that Roger Craig kind of mold?

Roger Craig was a badass in Tecmo Superbowl! We definitely need a guy like him!

since when were 260 pound running backs the norm for "everydown backs"? who stole our forum and where did we get these weird perceptions?

It was more of an exaduration to talk about how people want a big back as the everydown back.

My point is that Roger Craig didn't look like the big back type but he was very successful and ran very big. I really would like to get a back like that for our team.

Last draft I compared Detroit's Kevin Smith to Craig.

It's just a sin the guy is under a 4.0 average. I wish we had him.
