The Buffalo Bills head coaching search has taken quite the unexpected and surprising turn.

The Buffalo Bills secretly interviewed long-time coach Chan Gailey last week and a source close to Gailey said the coach is slated to meet with owner Ralph Wilson and GM Buddy Nix sometime again Monday, FOXSports.com has learned. As long as talks don’t break down, Gailey is expected to be hired as the Bills head coach within the next 24-48 hours. ....

Chan has something going for him. He stays employed for some reason. Didn't he have some health issues at Georgia Tech though (isn't that where he was?)..a bad heart scare or something?

He actually has been successful wherever he has been but it is the type of success that gets you so far and then nothing

The Bills are said to be impressed with how Gailey has brought teams to the playoffs with quarterbacks such as Mike Tomczak, Kordell Stewart and Jay Fiedler. In fact, Bill Cowher -- whom the Bills had been courting to replace the fired Dick Jauron -- highly recommended Gailey to the Bills.

Cowher planned to make Gailey his assistant head coach/offensive coordinator if he came back. Gailey has coached in four Super Bowls and has had his teams go to the playoffs in 11 of his 15 NFL seasons.

Gailey was coach of the Cowboys in 1998-99, following Barry Switzer, reaching the playoffs in both seasons but failing to win a playoff game. He coached Georgia Tech from 2002 through 2007 and led the Yellow Jackets to a bowl game in all six seasons at the helm

And yet, he's going to another team with no QB worth a crud on the roster. Has he ever coached a team with a decent QB? LOL

he's a pretty decent coach, but obviously you couldn't get more "..." than this hire if you're a Bills fan.

Ha..that'd be par for the course for the Bills. Tebow's technique is almost as bad as Leftwich's. The dude might be a great athlete, but I can't see him being worth a crud as an NFL QB.

Watch Jacksonville and Buffalo get into some kind of war during the draft to try and trade up to get Tebow.

I've just now began reading mock drafts and a large majority of the ones I've read have the Jags picking Tebow. Maybe I'm waay off base here, but does selling tickets take precedence over winning? I just can't see him being worthy of a 1st round pick at QB. Eh, I reckon I've been wrong before....

Exactly..it would most definitely be to sell tickets.

Yep, that is true. I just wouldn't be able to comprehend my team drafting for ticket sales.

Anywho, ain't no skin off my back. They can draft a long snapper and a place holder in the first two rounds for all I care.

They're in dire straits there though. It would be desperation but they can justify it. It's not like Garrard is a Pro Bowler or anything. He's competent..they can sell it by just saying Tebow is the "heir apparent" when the reality is probably much closer to they just need to sell tickets.

I'll be the first to admit that if I were a Bills fan, this wouldn't move the excitement/optimism needle one iota.

I'll also be the first to admit that I would have said the exact same thing about Mike Smith in Atlanta, John Fox in Carolina, and Bill Belichick in New England.

Needless to say, to varying degrees, I would have been wrong about all three of those guys.

From everything I'm hearing, perhaps the biggest thing this franchise can do to turn itself around is to either get new ownership which will let the football side do it's job, or get the current owners nose out of that side of the business, and stop doing things like firing your Offensive Coordinator during the last week of the pre-season.

There are a few reasons why the Bills made this piss-poor choice.

Russ Grimm, Leslie Frazier and any assistant coach on the rise wanted nothing to do with a terrible owner that meddles and hires idiots for GMs. Buddy Nix, a young, spry 70, runs the show there now.

This is a far cry from the organization that in the early 90s had Bill Polian as the GM and AJ Smith as his assistant. They are beyond dysfunctional now, and Cowher, Shanahan and any other logical choice saw that mess and went running from the hills. Nothing will change there until Ralph Wilson dies, and if I'm a Bills fan (thank god I hate them) today is the ultimate depression - a "C" level choice who took the job because NO ONE else wanted it.
