Have to win the close games. Our schedule gets awfully tougher on paper but I have faith that our roster will be more complete than ever.

It will be sweet to get OD back! Just have to pray for health and we should be fine.

meh....what these teams are like now and what they'll be like next year is two different things. Of course that also means the Texans, which like any other team, can come out either good or bad next year. Just have to wait and see if Da Kubinator makes a team out of the Texans for once.

Yikes, 7 of our 16 games are against 2009 playoff teams.

No gimmes on this schedule...
I am surprised no one has updated this. Everything is right except your AFC West opponents.

Home: San Diego, Kansas City
Away: Denver, Oakland

This is due to the new NFL rules that limits west coast travel. The Titans would have had to go to both Oakland and San Diego in 2010, but they now they only go to one (we play KC on the road instead of Oakland).

Those records mean nothing going to next season because a new era has begun. I'm glad we're playing a so-called tough schedule. When we make the playoffs next year no one will be able to say we benifited from a soft schedule. You have to beat the best to be the best right?

The Jets finished 2nd in their division. So we play them because of that.

The Ravens finishd second in their division, so we play them.

The Raiders are in the AFC South, so we play them.

If we want to take the next step, we need to beat these guys.

Probably just an accident, but the Raiders are in the AFC West. We play the entire AFC West

I think the Texans are as good as any team on our schedule in 2010. In '09 if Danta Robinson would have showed up for training camp we might have started 3-0. Not 1-2. Robinson is the reason for the slow start of the defense. He is to blame for the Texans not making the playoffs.

I do think 2010 schedule will be brutal compare to 2009
considered the fact that we 1 and 5 in our division this year. Next year might not be much better. Titans will not be an 0-6 team next year. Also, these home game aren't cake-walk either:

San Diego Chargers
Baltimore Ravens
Dallas Cowboys
New York Giants

The Texans should not be an easy scheduling spot on any other teams schedule next year either. This works both ways.

First off, welcome to the board. Secondly, if I were forced to point blame at one position during those 3 games it'd be both Safety positions. IIRC, we had Barber and Busing starting.....bleh!

Additionally, we had a rookie LB that had sit throughout the pre-season starting in his first game ever.

2009 TEAM-BY-TEAM STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
1. Miami Dolphins 7-9
2. Carolina Panthers 8-8
3. New England Patriots 10-6
4. Atlanta Falcons 9-7
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-13
6. Buffalo Bills 6-10
7. New York Jets 9-7
8. New Orleans Saints 13-3
9. Philadelphia Eagles 11-5
10. New York Giants 8-8
11. Dallas Cowboys 11-5
11. Jacksonville Jaguars 7-9
13. Indianapolis Colts 14-2
14. Tennessee Titans 8-8
15. Houston Texans 9-7
16. Washington Redskins 8-8
17. Kansas City Chiefs 4-12
17. San Diego Chargers 13-3
19. Denver Broncos 8-8
19. Oakland Raiders 5-11
21. Detroit Lions 2-14
22. Cincinnati Bengals 10-6
22. St. Louis Rams 1-15
24. Seattle Seahawks 5-11
25. Cleveland Browns 5-11
26. San Francisco 49ers 8-8
27. Arizona Cardinals 10-6
28. Baltimore Ravens 9-7
29. Pittsburgh Steelers 9-7
30. Green Bay Packers 11-5
31. Minnesota Vikings 12-4
32. Chicago Bears 7-9

The ranking is how their SOS was at beginning of season, end number is their record after 2009 season. Itseems some teams with easy schedules did not benefit, nor did teams with tough schedules do badly. I think it is a matter of luck, injuries, your division and rest of NFL, so despite fact we got one heck of an SOS for 2010 will wait and see how that plays out

The strength of schedule BEFORE the season is really irrelevant because it's based on their opponents' schedules from the PREVIOUS season.

To really get a meaningful strength of schedule, you have to calculate each team's opponents' combined records for 2009. I couldn't find it calculated anywhere on the net and I didn't feel like taking the time to calculate it myself.

Here you go - Link

They have it to determine draft order for teams with equal records.

Some interesting notes:

These were the top 5 predicted difficulty strengths of schedules:

1. Miami Dolphins 7-9
2. Carolina Panthers 8-8
3. New England Patriots 10-6
4. Atlanta Falcons 9-7
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-13

They finished as:
Miami - .559 (1st hardest schedule)
Carolina - .539 (3rd hardest schedule)
NE - .516 (12th hardest)
Atl - .504 (somewhere in the middle)
TB - .555 (2nd hardest schedule)

So while there is some variability in schedules as compared to how they are predicted, as you can see, the teams who looked to have the hardest schedules after the 08-09 season usually DID in fact have the hardest season in 09-10

OTOH, you've got teams like the Saints, who were expected to have a fairly hard schedule, who ended up having the weakest schedule. The Colts were expected to have a moderate schedule and had a relatively weak one.

Either way, we didn't have one of the hardest or one of the weakest schedules has has been claimed. We finished tied for the 10th hardest schedule out of 20. Right in the middle.
