Default NFL Preview - Houston (7-7) at Miami (7-7)

Quote:
(Sports Network) - The Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans haven't always earned the attention of the NFL world with their hot-and-cold play this season, but many eyes around the league will be focused on both teams when they square off at Dolphin Stadium on Sunday.

The Fins and Texans are part of a six-team glut of 7-7 wild card hopefuls in the AFC, and are the only members of that group who will be meeting head-to- head in Week 16. In addition to the four other 7-7 teams - the Titans (who face the Chargers on Christmas night), Jets, Steelers, and Jaguars - other AFC playoff hopefuls like the Broncos (8-6) and Ravens (8-6) will be looking at this matchup in South Florida with genuine interest, as will teams such as the Patriots (9-5) and Bengals (9-5) who could end up seeing one in the opening playoff round.

The Dolphins find themselves still standing despite a dispiriting 27-24 overtime loss at Tennessee last Sunday. Tony Sparano's squad battled back from a 24-6 deficit to force overtime, but a key interception by second-year quarterback Chad Henne in the extra session, followed by a questionable unnecessary roughness penalty on wide receiver Greg Camarillo following the pick, helped the Titans get closer to a 46-yard game-winning field goal by Rob Bironas.

The loss left the Dolphins a game behind Baltimore and Denver at the head of the wild card pack, but Miami remains in an advantageous situation as it applies to its fellow 7-7 combatants. Miami owns tie-breakers over the Jets and Jaguars thanks to head-to-head wins, and can knock out two fellow wild competitors in back-to-back weeks by taking care of the Texans and Steelers on their home field next week.

The Texans, meanwhile, are going to need two wins and a lot of help to realize their dreams of a first-ever playoff appearance, but given the franchise's mostly dubious history and the fact that Gary Kubiak's team was 5-7 and left for dead just two weeks ago, Houston has to be pleased to still be part of the discussion.

OVERALL ANALYSIS

The Texans are a sentimental favorite to those who would like to see them break through with their first playoff berth in team history, but any logical assessment of their personnel at this point would not speak to the strong possibility of a 9-7 finish. The club's injuries, particularly at the skill positions and along the offensive line, have made the attack a shade weaker than expected, as evidenced by a 16-point showing against a bad Rams team last week. The defense, meanwhile, has been average all year. The Dolphins don't exactly look Super Bowl-bound either, but are better on both lines, have a few more playmakers on the roster, and compare favorably to the Texans, especially at home.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Dolphins 19, Texans 14
Sentimental favorite? The Texans? LOL

Texans win this one by a FG.

No, Brown kicks 3 FGs and makes one or two of them, just enough for us to win.

Some of Houston is pleased. Others in Houston are still seething over Kubiak's team reached 5-7.

Co-sign. Those four division losses were inexcusable.
