I have read in various forums that Houston might jump to the Mountain West Conference along with maybe TCU? Has anyone else heard anything credible about this. It is suppose to create a BCS eligible conference. If true, this would be a big shot-in-the-arm to Houston football in the form of recruiting and revenue not to mention hiring and keeping good coaches.
Would appreciate any comments. |

TCU is already in the MWC, but that would be cool. I'd get to see the coogs every other year in Albuquerque.

I haven't heard anything like that, but I would hate to see it happen if it's true. Road night games wouldn't start until like 9:00.
I also thought the reason SMU, Rice and Tulsa left the WAC is because of similar travel issues that UH would face in the Mountain West.

That could have a dramatic effect on West Coast recruiting for UH. 9:00 Houston time = prime time in SoCal. It could also mean more unopposed nationally televised games.

My concern is budgetary. Trips to: BYU Utah Air Force Wyoming UNLV San Diego State New Mexico Colorado State Are a lot more expensive than trips to: SMU UTEP Tulsa Rice Tulane Heck, add in a few of the East Division CUSA teams. Southern Miss UAB even Memphis Let's face it, the Coogs don't have the athletic budget that some schools do. Again, I think this part of the reason Rice, Tulsa and SMU left the WAC and ironically wound up in Conference USA.

There have been all sorts of rumors floating around like this for a couple of years.
Nothing is concrete. It's CUSA for right now.

There have been bloggers talking about U of H, Boise State, Nevada and Fresno State going to MWC. MWC would drop the bottom feeders to add these teams and then in the hopes of doing that gain a automatic BCS bid.

If any team needs to go to the MWC, it should be Boise State.
Then the BCS crew would have to re-figure the entire league....because that conference with Utah, TCU, BYU, and then Boise State would be dominant. |

Here's a slew of information. I'm not sure how credible it is, but interesting to read.

If that happened the only way I want UH to go is if the MWC gets a automatic BCS league if not its a waste of time. If that conference is stronger it just creates a non BCS league where the best non BCS teams basically knock each other off and leave all the bids to the big leagues.

I mentioned on other thread that Old Southwest Conf was good. Just think Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Texans A&M, Houston, Arkansas SMU, Baylor, and Rice. This aint bad group. Especially, bolded unis. With bolded unis and OU and OSU, called them Tough South 8 or something.
