Vince Young is no "leader."

All this VY jock-sniffing that I'm reading about "leadership."

I, well most of us with good critical faculty anyway, remember this about 2008-2009:

When things went wrong at the start of last season, Vince Young pouted during the Jacksonville game and had to be later searched for by the cops.

When things went wrong in the Miami game, when Matt Schaub heard all the boos at Reliant...he only pulled up his chin strap and took the team down the field and scored the TD himself!

Those are qualities I see from those images I recall. Nothing's really changed for me when we consider the dynamics.

All that baloney that the MNF announcers spouted about VY "the most poised that they've ever seen"...yeah, that's because he had no pressure at 0-6, not much to lose, taking them on a nice little streak, and it doesn't hurt to have Chris Johnson to take the pressure off from actually throwing consistently. In 2006-2007, I recall it was a top Titans defense that won games, not VY per se.

But there will be a time when the rest of the NFL assembles more film to, ah, re-acquaint themselves with Mr. Young and game plan those nice options, and he is expected to produce beyond a basically LOST SEASON down the road.

Isn't it funny how all the VY worshipping was all but done but now revived for a few games? What if it all goes wrong once the Titans ultimately hit a skid? Will Vince hide somewhere again?

Matt Schaub's got thick skin. He responds. He makes mistakes but he finds a way to respond POSITIVELY. He puts his team in a position to win or tie in close games. It's not his fault that his backs and kicker can't score at the last second.

We'll see how it all works out down the road. Like Steve Young basically asserted, at some point winning "from the pocket" is ultimately where it is. We'll see how things stand once the little Tennessee carpet ride runs its course.

Nope, I'll still take Matt Schaub, his overall maturity, humility and consistency to throw that ball WELL despite the pressure, no running game and depletion of a crucial TE. I'll take the Matt Schaub that communicates plays and schemes with his team, even off the field, rather than the other guy that pimps it when not on the field! (Maybe Vince Young may mature later...but...)


All this about "winning." That's what VY (or Rob Bironas or a solid defense) does for a stretch in calm seas until the next storm approaches on the horizon.

These types of painful close games will further help Schaub's career down the road. Heck, Schaub's already tasted winning some good close games. It's adversity where we see a young Texans team develop.

And despite some setbacks, the Texans still have a top 3 QB, a top 3 WR, a top TE until injury...an improving defense...it's the first time in Texans history it's all happened. And it's getting better. Bitter waters yet before the sweet. It's not yet the Texans time but since opening day, the Texans have not yet been through a waxing like 59-0 or 40-something to 17 at Jax, unlike VY's team this year.

See, all the Vince Young jock sniffers, hitherto gone for awhile, are back spouting off while times are (momentarily) good.

Vince Young is quite less a leader than Matt Schaub. Hiding and pouting, having mama speak up. Come on, man.

He ran well on third downs and made a few good passes, but he made a number of poor passes, too. He did enough to keep his team in the game, but the credit he's getting is way over the top. This game was all about the Titans defensive scheme keeping the Texans passing attack neutralized, Chris Johnson running the rock thirty times and milking the clock, and the kickers. Black Jesus makes everyone real stupid. He's not as bad as he's been called over the last year, nor is he "just a winner" without the flashy quarterback stats. He's average at best.

I'm still furious at Dunta Robinson for his sucky play. Dunta's drop completely changed the game and made everyone forget about that terrible VY throw.

They have an elite RB. If they can just get average out of Vince that's good enough to keep them in games and win some. I guess that's what they are looking for!

Right, and that's great for them and good for Vince. But for the love of Tebow can we please stop attributing every win to Vince Young at the expense of his teammates? All I ask for is intelligent football analysis. Just a little bit of realism, please?

I didn't even watch the game but have seen the highlights on various networks..just saying he played well. I think Chris Johnson is by far their most valuable offensive player. As he goes so goes that offense. Nobody seems to be able to stop that guy.

Realistic analysis of the game shows that VY played really well. He made a couple of bad throws but he made alot of good throws in the pocket that he was never able to do before. He also had a drop on a pretty long pass to Nate Washington. I thought he was much more in control and was consistent. I was impressed. BUT much of the impression came from how he looked pre-benching. I also think Chris Johnson makes his running more of a threat. CJ is world class. VY is doing really well with what he is being asked to do.

Most Texans fans readily admit that a big part of Schaub's game is Andre Johnson.

Will any VY fans stand up and admit the same symbiotic relationship to Chris Johnson.

Remove either Johnson from the game and both QBs will struggle to carry the load. That's the nature of a team sport.

If both Johnsons went down, do you think LenWhale would be able to up his game in the way Andre Davis did when AJ went down 2 years ago??

Good question. I think we are deeper at WR than the Titans are at RB. White is not a bad RB, but is he as good at his position as Walter, Davis, Jones are at theirs?

Good food for thought, though. Both Andre J. and Chris J. are tops at their positions, which clearly benefit the QBs in each case. The talent behind them makes for good conversation.
