Default NFL fines Ochocinco $20,000 for joking about bribery

Quote:
Chad Ochocinco(notes) is going to need 19,999 more dollar bills to pay off the fine resulting from his attempted bribe Sunday during the Cincinnati Bengals-Baltimore Ravens game.

According to Chris Mortensen, the NFL fined Ochocinco $20,000 for his tongue-in-cheek attempt to alter the outcome of a replay review that was looking to see whether he had two feet in bounds on a play ruled a reception. Ochocinco's use of the word "bribe" in a post-game press conference was said to have played a large role in determining the amount of the fine.

Tank Johnson was once fined $7,500 for punching a guy on the field.

this is obviously a much bigger problem.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis seemed to support the league's decision to fine Ochocinco.

"You don't fool with the integrity of the game in the NFL," Lewis said, according to the team's Web site. "You don't cross that line, and he crossed that line. I told him that, and obviously the league felt that.

"We're not the WWF. It's a serious game for serious people. You can't do that, and he realizes he made a very big error in judgment. He's sorry for it. Hopefully some good will come out of it. I'm sure the league at some point can't have a copycat deal. So I think they made a pretty firm statement there will be no copycats."

In response to the fine, the company that made Ochocinco's iPhone application said it will donate an additional $20,000 in the receiver's name to the Hillview Acres home for abused children in Chino, Calif. John Shahidi, the president and CEO of Rock Software, Inc., has assisted the home. Also, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer hosts an annual golf tournament that has raised more than $400,000 for it.

Isn't than an oxymoron? Lighten up, Marv. Football is entertainment, not world peace.

I might be in the minority here, but I thought it was funny although I realize you can't have football players throwing $$ at referees ergo, the league can't let Ochocinco get away with it. That doesn't make it any less funny.

I think he might have hit home a little. Maybe he should have just glared at the official instead, like some other players do.

Maybe he should have said, "here this is from the Texans so they don't get jobbed like a midget at a Miami bowling ally."

Well, maybe I'm really in the minority here, but I think the $20,000 punishment totally fits the utter stupidity of the crime.

I mean, taking out a dollar and waving in front of the official??? How stupid is that?

Why can't these dipshits keep their mouths shut, put a lid on the dumb antics, and go out and play like professionals?

It seems to work for Andre Johnson. What's their problem.

Why did he have a dollar bill on the field? I wouldn't think football players during a pro football game have too many reasons to carry cash. Do those pants even have pockets? Do they have to pay for each cup of gatorade?

Between the cell phone stunt and his other BS, ol' Chad must be pushing $100,000 in League Fines.

He will get most of it back when he files his taxes. Since they are charitable contributions, he probably does it to earmark certain charities. Realistically, though improper, any buying of favors are done behind closed doors and for a lot more money.
