Cool Offsetting Injuries?

So does the loss of Sanders, Jackson, and the LB equate to the loss of OD and Thor in the overall end result of the game?

I'm curious to hear people's thoughts.

I don't know if you can really compare them. OD was quite the key for us in dumping the ball and manufacturing first downs and big plays, but the Colts lost 3 of thier defensive starters.

Lets reverse it, say Dallas Clark is out and in return Cushing, Quin and Pollard are out. Fair deal?

I think I would rather have my starting three D players in, but who knows.

Put that way, heck no. But going into this game Mario, Okoye, Smith, and #4 (Cody?) are no Freeney and Mathis.... (if only Mario were healthy....?)

It's actually going to work out in our favor, IMO. We were already probably planning on using more 3 and 4 WR sets because of the missing TEs. Now, those same sets will force huge mismatches, like ADavis/JacJones on a second string safety, or it will force Indy to play 3-4 CBs, some of which probably weren't even on the team a few weeks ago.

It will be very interesting to watch and see if Indy stays in base defense with the following alignment: AJ and JJ split wide, KWalter in slot, Dressen at TE and a single RB... If they stay in base then we'll have Walter matching up with LBs quite a bit, along with Dressen. If they go to nickel, we should be able to run on them and we will still have good WRs being played by fringe CBs without a lot of experience.

Having an undrafted FA rookie and a 3rd round rookie go against AJ is never going to be an offset.

It's all going to depend on how much time Schaub gets to throw the ball.

If you were the Colts DC, what would you do?

Bullit is one of the best "backup" safeties in the league. I don't even consider him a backup with as much time Sanders misses. Melvin has mad some huge plays against us before. Same goes with the LB's, they seem to be able to put anyone in there and there solid.

It's hard to change what you're built for. My initial response was blitz and come after you. However, they aren't really built that way. You have to trust in what you do and not panic to much. BTW, they also have at least one linebacker out too, so who knows.

We scored 27 and 31? against them last season with Sage starting at QB. Let's not overestimate their defense too much!

And we still lost which means the defense did there job. All I'm saying is Indy has really good depth so don't underestimate there defense due to injuries.

Since I'm not playing or coaching, I don't think my assessment of their depth will impact how the team plays. That being said, they have a very beatable defense. By design, it is a defense that can thrive with the lead. If our offense executes and manages the two DEs, we will have a lot of success on offense... that doesn't mean we will neccessarily win though.

IT sucks huge that we lost Bob Sanders, and Hayden.. Thats huge for us however we have still won most of our games without Bob... I think he has only played 2 games this year and one of those games was against St Louis that we would have won anyway if he was there or not.

This does affect our team, but not enough to make us a bad team... We still have a high powered offene and that is enough to win games (at least in the regular season) Every Colts fan right now is holding their breath hoping we can make it through these injuries and just win at least another 4 games to go 11-5 and win the division.... Then once the playoffs come hopefully we have Sanders, Hayden and Gonzo back which will spark the team big time... In the end all that counts is playoffs.

Sanders has not been there all but one game against the Rams, so Sanders missing this game does not really matter. The Colts have been getting it done without him. Jackson just came back also, the Colts have been playing Powers, Lacey and Jennings in his spot and doing quite well without him. I really don't even see the Colts resigning Jackson after his contract is up after this year. Powers has been doing a great job filling in for Jackson and has the potential to be better then Jackson. Kelvin Hadyen the other corner has missed most of the season also. Lacey does a good job filling his role, however when Jenning comes in to play his spot Jennings usually gives up an 8-10 yard cushion that allows the easy out routes and a lot of underneath routes.

The loss of Hagler at lineback may have an impact Sunday. IMO Hagler is the best run support linebacker on the Colts. This could open up the run lanes for the Texans run game. If the Texans get the run game going then the passing game for the Texans wont be far behind. If the front 7 don't stop the run and the Colts have to drop a saftey down in the box it could be a long game for Indy fans.

If the Colts lose any more of their players, it could be considered a battle of the Scabs.
