Why has it taken so long to see the End around in a regular seasn game.
I thought it was a part of our run game last year, that extra defender had to watch for it. Finally saw it yesterday, along with that little pitch to Walter.. That's what we need more of.

Case in point, our last touchdown of the 4th Qtr. We faked the reverse, the DE had no one on him, but he had to watch Walter coming around, to make sure he had/didn't have the ball. If not for that, he would have tackled Moats in the backfield for a loss.

I'll take full credit for that play. If you remember correctly, I called for a double reverse in the "script the first 4 plays" thread. Now I know they tweaked it, but it was all on me. Go ahead, give me your praises.

Walter lost a yard against the Cards on a reverse.
In the Jags game, he motioned from the slot to the RB position and took the ball for an end-around that gained 11 yards. |

I think they've tried a few this year but they've been trying to force Kevin Walter on it. I don't believe his speed is an issue running routes but as a straight up ball carrier he doesn't have the juke to be effective (and he isn't)
Jacoby Jones, however, has the speed and the juke to be an effective reverse option. Hence the 17 yard (i think?) pickup yesterday. |

Good looking out. I had not noticed us trying them as much this year, as much as we did last year.

Like I said in the gameday thread I think Jacoby Jones should be the one running the end around. He has much better speed and explosivness I could see him breaking one for a big play.

Why not AJ on a reverse? Call me crazy, but AJ on a kick return would be awseome. Don't jump down my throat for the idea, there is a top NFL team that uses their number 1 WR for kick retruns.(or punt returns)

They will be looking at AJ all the time so I don't think we have good use of the reverse with AJ taking the ball on such play. |

Kubiak's first year, Andre had 3 rushes for 14 yards (4.7 ypg average). Since 2006 he's had 0 attempts.
Under the C & C factory (for 3 seasons), he had 15 rushes for 12 yards (0.8 ypg average). Career: 18 rushes for 26 yards (1.4 ypg average) Let's just say that it's not his forte and move along.

I think JJ should run a couple of end arounds, he's got the speed to be really succesful.
I thought I saw some new formations this week, a couple of tight reciever formations, but maybe I've just missed these in the past. I like how those formations bunch up the D. It seems like this would help our playmakers.

Not that he can't do it, but I think it's better to send him forward to occupy two defenders.

I remember that now. However, as you said, with that removed he's still only at 3.5. Anyway, I agree with 76.

reverses aren't used that much these days as you really have to have someone who can motor to get the most out of it cause most defenses just pursue to the ball so well these days that they aren't big gainers like they used to be, and doing a handoff at full speed isn't all that easy.

To be honest, I've actually been happy to see less of these. It seemed like we used at least one a game last year, and none of them would work.
I would love to see a 3 WR set, with jacoby in the slot and have him run it rather than see Walter do it again. I like Walter, but we need to have some people with crazy jets try it.
