Crabtree Starting As a "Virgin" - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum

He didn't end his holdout until Oct 7......no OTA's.........no TC.........no preseason..............absolutely no exposure to NFL speed competition.

Out of desperation, the 9rs, having lost one of their WR starters, will push Crabtree onto an NFL field for the first time........against our hungry D. I expect our multiple D looks will confuse him into mistakes. His route running should glaringly expose his inexperience, with a good possibility that our D will see nice "returns"........if you know what I mean.

The 9rs do not have a high powered O that can stay up with a typical Texans number game. Out of necessity, I look for the 9rs to look to the air (and Crabtree) more than they should.........but pleasantly enough to see them bearing gifts for the awaiting Texans.

Not really worried about Crabtree so much as I am Frank Gore and the 49er D. I bet Demeco has a "dispute" with his "contract".....lay that boy out!!!!!

I really hope you are right. I thought the same thing about Sanchez "The Magic Quarterback" when we played him in week 1 based upon his low amount of starts in college and the overhyped, leg humping by the media. But we all know how we looked that game.

This is the first game in a very, very long time that I will have the opportunity to be in attendance at, so I really hope there is not a letdown from last weeks performance. I definitely think we can win the game, but this team has been so up and down lately that I wouldn't throw money on it. The only thing that I really don't like about this game is that the 49ers are actually a good team that got embarrassed at home to the Falcons and have had all week to prepare for us coming off their BYE week.

You are right in that our D is the key here in making a statement and our Offense needs to able to run against the 49ers D so we can use our bread and butter boots and PA plays.

With a secondary that includes both Pollard and Dunta, I'm confidant that Crabtree will get a "warm welcome" to the NFL in his debut Sunday.

I hope Dunte covers this dude! Maybe he'll get his chance to PROVE he's worth what he's asking! One money hungry AH against another! Hummmm, Dunte better have a good game!!! If Reeves/Bennett covers this jerk, well, Crabass will probably get his chance to gloat!! JMO!

This is good news for the Texans. Not even Calvin Johnson made much of an impact in his rookie season.

As someone else stated, I'd also love to see Crytree come over the middle and have Pollard or Cushing or someone give him a nice welcoming gift.

The way Reeves has been playing, I'm not that sure that Dunta would be the better choice to cover Crabtree.

Personally, I'd rather use a little more man-power to cover Vernon Davis. The 9ers have like 5 passing TD's and Davis has accounted for 3 of them. He's become a good TE under Mike.

Plus, Hill has thrown for an average of 180 yards a game. Covering Davis and stopping the run should be our primary focus. IMO, of course

I wouldn't try to equate the two situations. Sanchez did not go in "cold turkey." He signed in June in the middle of minicamp. He, therefore, also had the benefit of TC and preseason. Not seasoned, but certainly exposed to a simulation of the real world. Don't expect Crabtree's "clock" to be dirty by the end of the game.

I really don't think they will be throwing all that much to Crabtree. He'll probably be used as a decoy more than anything else. He may get a couple passes but I don't see how they can expect him to produce on the field with only a few weeks of NFL practices under his belt.

Its a two edged sword. On the one hand, he has no NFL exprience and has had no time for him and his QB to get in sync.

On the other hand, we've got zero tape of this guy to look at.

That's my main point.

Way too many times I thought we ought to dominate some rookie or unproven guy and we end up making him look like a HOFer.

I don't see that happening this week though. I see the Texans making a statement game this week, getting back on a winning record and climbing back into the Playoff picture (early in the season as it may be).

True as that may be, he was still a rookie in game 1 on the road with a rookie head coach. That's really what got me on that game.

Crabtree will be effective, it gives them a legit down the field presence they need. They will still run the ball but play action for them has some real meaning now.

He will be focusing on down the field plays and he's got a good set of hands and skill, he doesn't need much practice to run down the field and go up and get a pass or two that. Heck just his presence in the game is going to force us to respect that now or else we get burned.

Hope he does not catch our guys relaxing. He was a good college receiver that messed up by not grabbing the offer and getting to camp.
