I'm re-watching the game right now. at :03 right before the end of the half 56 actually forces a 3rd fumble. It would have been negated because Jamison is lined up offsides but for the record....

9 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and an interception.

The bengals are able to decline the penalty and take the yards and kick a FG but for some reason the booth doesn't review the play. If they had, Cincy would have had to take the penalty and loose 4 yards.

I could swear he had two forced fumbles that game.

Brian Cushing, LB, Houston Texans
Cushing recorded nine tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles in the Texans' 28-17 win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Confirmed via NFL's RoTW award.

Er. Not negating the poster above me, but the listing at Scouts Inc.

the pick was something to behold. diles is pretty good but if we could find another playmaker to take his place, we could have something special.

I think that would be a real luxury. I heard Diles only played in 27 plays against the Bengals. Rather spend our resources fortifying the secondary and the lines.

Diles was limited against the Bengals because they played mostly out of the nickel package.

Exactly my point. Every time we go into the nickel we lose snaps to the number 3 linebacker. Unless you want to take Cushing or Ryans off the field...

It's kind of how Bart Scott developed in Baltimore. They had Suggs and Lewis raising hell and they just found a playmaker in Scott. Hopefully Adibi can develop into that type of player but irregardless I can feel the defense getting some momentum and showing some heart and pride.

I agree with this. We can live with Diles, he's a pretty good player, but a true play maker would be nice.

I'd like to see more 3-3 nickle fronts on 3rd and 5+. Get your best players on the field.

I'd rather upgrade the safety and DT positions instead of trying to find someone who can beat out Diles. We already tried to get him out of the lineup and even forced him to move positions, all but handing Adibi the starting WILL job while Diles had to work at SAM for most of his reps in preseason because Cushing was hurt but the guy is a player and he found a way to win the starting job regardless.

He is SOLID and while Cushing and DeMeco might be special players Diles is a starting quality WILL backer. Let them grow together and put a DT in front of them that can keep em clean and a ballhawk safety who can play centerfield then you'll see something special alright.

LBer is arguably the 2nd strongest position on our team both in starters and depth.

1) Indisputably WR

2) LB or TE

Were they a base 3-4 at the time though? I know they have been back and forth a lot and even when they are a base 4-3 they show a lot of 3-4 looks and vice-versa. I just think that in order to find an upgrade to Diles we would probably have to either spend a solid amount of money or use a 1st-3rd rounder on a LBer. It could wind up helping the defense but not sure it gives us our best bang for the buck with as solidly as Diles has been playing. I still have high hopes for Adibi too but its going to be real tough for him to get some PT.

When we have less holes on the team, then we can start thinking about upgrading Diles/Adibi spot

Be hard for me to stomach using a draft pick on the LB core, when we will need IMO a S, DT, CB, short yardage back, and interior Oline help.

I’m kind of wondering if we're setting up Joel Dreessen as some trade bait, bringing Casey up as the long snapper and JD's replacement as the second receiving TE.

Am I the only one who likes Diles? He's not amazing in Coverage and he doesn't rush the passer much, but hes had some great plays these past few weeks busting through the opposing OL and hitting the back behind the LOS or at least redirecting the play. The guy is a very, very solid player

Good post and I agree with everything. Only thing I would say is IMO our strongest position is LB not WR. No doubt we are deep at WR but our starting LB unit is one of the best in football. With Adibi, Thompson (when healthy), and Bentley as our backup LBs I truly believe we have one of the best set of LBers in the NFL. If anything, it is 1A and 1B.

well if we want to go draft I have been impressed with Iowa LB A.J. Edds. 6-4 244 as 2nd rd. pick (RB Toby Gerhardt 1st per RMartin65).

Edds has elite ability in coverage combined with tackling skills. think of a smaller version of Cushing

Depending on how the Dunta situation shakes out this offseason I dont know if we need to use a draft pick on a CB. We have drafted 3 in the last 2 seasons (then Bennett the season before...although I dont think he'll make the team next season given his regression). I think its time we start investing high draft picks in the safety position and see if an upgrade there will yield even better play from our current young group of CBs when they have someone giving them help.

I'm still hopeful that Molden can develop into a solid player although his injury issues concern me. He was good on special teams last season but we need him to contribute more on defense and most importantly STAY HEALTHY!!!

Quinn was a pleasant surprise and should be quite the contributor for us at Nickel Back down the stretch. Reeves is developing into a damn fine CB and Robinson is a solid player no matter what a lot of us think about him after this past offseason.

Lets not forget McCain being a pleasant surprise making the team as a 6th round pick and it looks like he'll stick. With those 4 (hopefully 5 if Molden can get healthy) I think we've got a good YOUNG group of CBs to work with. Unless a potential shutdown CB slips to us then I think we need to pick a safety or two provided Dunta is still in town.
