With a good chunk of games behind us, how do you feel our rookies are contributing.
Personally, Cush is kicking ass and taking names, and Glover Quin shows promise. Other than that I'm not impressed with our rookies

I am pretty happy. Right now, I would give it a B-. Cush is A++++++, Barwin shows promise but is inexperienced, same can be said for Caldwell, Quinn looks very very good and gives our defense (especially with Pollard and Cush) a new attitude, McCain has been serviceable especially given where he was drafted, Anthony Hill appears to be a bust (Bennie Joppru anyone?), Casey shows promise but can't seem to get PT, and Nolan is what he is: a 7th round pick.
Not a bad draft, but it shows promise IMO. You can never know the very first year. It takes about 2-3 years to have an accurate feel for how you did in the draft. |

I wouldnt expect to see much from Hill or casey for atleast one more season. Witch isnt there fault being on a team with OD and Dressen. But other than that Cush looks like a beast, Quin looks damn good for a rookie starter were he was taken. (although he isnt starting anymore)
Everybody else is meh. Caldwell seems to being a decent job today. |

Cushing is a star. The rest have been ordinary, or less.

I give this years draft a C. Cushing has been awsome, really better than what I expected but to many players haven't played and there are still huge holes on the team. I grade the player and the pick.
1. Cushing, great pick and has been playing awsome. Player A+, pick A+. 2. Barwin, good player with lots of potential but a terrible pick. We could have had a starter at a variety of positions that would play all the time instead of only 10% of the time. Barwin-B+, pick is a D-. 3. Caldwell, good player with lots of potential, but hasn't been on the field yet until today which is a disappointment considering the talent level ahead of him. Player-No grade yet, pick is a B. 4. Quin, seems to be playing decent for a rookie, but so did Bennett, has definite potential. Quin-B, pick is a B+. 4. Hill, potential as a blocker but so far is a definite disappointment. Hasn't played yet, not his fault but the pick is a fail. No grade yet on the player but the pick is a D. 5. Casey, again potential as a player but the pick is a fail when considering how many holes there were and still are in the team and has barely seen the field. Player B, pick is a D. 6. McCain, shows some potential which is surprising considering where he was drafted. Player is a C+, pick is a C-. 7. Nolan, not much to expect from a 7th round pick. No grade. |

Anthony Hill was THE best pick of the draft.
Major props for taking that guy where we did. James Casey needs to absorb all he can from Owen Daniels. There's just not a spot for him right now, but that might actually be a GOOD thing for Casey in the long run. I would have liked to see us trade both those picks and move up in the draft a bit. We could have at least had an extra 3rd rounder for the two 4th rounders. Easily.

1. Cushing: He's been the NFL ready pro I expected.
2. Barwin is the project I expected. People forget he only played 1 year at DE. 3. Caldwell has been a disappointment. I thought he would come in a win a job on this weak interior. 4. Quin meh 4. Hill Why god? Why did we draft a TE? 5. Thor why god? Why did we draft a TE? 6. McCain meh 7. Nolan can't really fault the pick. Position of need, late round pick. Still, you expect the guys you just spent a draft pick on to make the team.

Anytime you draft a absolute stud who can anchor and be the defensive leader of your football team for the next decade the draft gets a automatic B. Whether of not we pull 2 to 3 more solid players out of it (which I think we will) will decide if it moves up to a A. (Frankly right now...it's WAY too early to even try to grade this draft.)

I don't expect much from a 6th round pick and he hasn't provided much either, when you consider the talent level on the team at CB, McCain was definetly going to make the team. He's been serviceable with some potential, thus the C+ grade. The Casey pick gets a D because a 4th string bench warming TE isn't a high priority when you consider we could have gotten a good Safety or O-lineman instead, both of which would have had much more playing time by now. As for the Barwin pick I do remember that DE pass rusher was our top priority but that's why we signed Antonio Smith in FA. We didn't need both of them. Since we signed Smith then we could have had a starter on the O-line or at Safety instead of a backup situational DE. On the reverse logic if we were drafting a DE then we should have saved 35 mil. that we're paying Smith. I don't have a problem with Barwin he's got potential to be a good player but so far the pick is a fail when you consider we could have had a starter instead. |

I give it a C....for Cushing. Still scratching my head over Hill. Still wanting to see JC getting time on the field as a weapon/decoy. Barwin and Caldwell will probably determine the draft in a few years. Quin may be the surprise to up the grade. Lots of promise but not much production, I assume because rookies are having a harder time getting through a more talented organization. Hill, I really, really hate that pick.

Most players picked in rounds 2-7 don't become immediate starters on their teams. We've just been so bad for so long that we immediately expect all our draft picks to make immediate contributions.
That said, Cushing is good enough that our draft is an A+ He's really that good

We addressed several defensive needs and got some depth (hopefully) in the O-line but left RB unaddressed to the dismay of several around here. I thought one of the UDFAs RBs would pan out but not so... at least not yet.
So all things considered, I'd give this draft a C+ with the possibility to be a B or better if the young DBs continue to develop and Caldwell steps into a starting job at G. |

Our drafting has been top notch since Kubiak and Smith took over. Those guys can really spot talent. Props to them.
