Default Snitch Could Snatch Some Plays From the Texans

Clark Harris was just recently picked up by the Bengals. Coincidence? Certainly he is well familiar with at least the Texans offense. But he would never think of sharing all the secrets of our high power running game, and snatch a win right out of our hands! Just an observation.

I know a couple times a year teams try this, but does it really have any success. I mean wasn't harris primarily here as a long-snapper and more of an emergency type TE. How much does he really know?

They actually cut their previous long-snapper, so this isn't one of those times. I mean, of course he'll share as much as he knows, but it's not one of those things where they'll turn around and cut him next week.

Well, unless he screws up a long snap or there's another LS out there better.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but I hope so. I can only imagine the ridicule a poster on this board would be subject to if they seriously suggested that a recent signing of an upcoming opponent's former long-snapper would provide any sort of meaningful advantage as Kubiak and the coordinators game planned.

They almost lost because of their longsnapper. Clark Harris was solid in limited PT.

Harris is going to tell them not to bite on play action, and double AJ.

Our offense has not made any significant changes from last year, especially since the end of the season. Even as an active roster LS (and back up TE), he would be expected to be privy to game plan information. And I do believe that Harris will share whatever basic plays, approaches and tendencies the Texans showed him last year to the time he was cut this year. (Not that I feel that this will significantly change the course of the upcoming game) I was, indeed, sarcastic concerning the running game comment, in that I believe that he would be in competition with "The World's Dumbest Criminals"..............as would be his new coaches for "adjusting" to that information. The Texans, with their full knowledge of the game plan, certainly haven't helped themselves either.

If Harris needs to tell thm that, they need new coaches. My 5 year old nephew could tell them that.

True, maybe he has the scoop on who ran his mouth about the "1st rounders". But hey, if they stomp em out tomorrow, maybe that's what was needed.

Eh. They got Harris and we got John Busing. He was a Bengal last season. It's a wash.

I believe that the Bengals have had significant system and personel changes since last year.

I don't think it's that significant of a change. They've been scrapping the waiver wire for two seasons now and they've hit big with several players but system change? What changes? Marvin Lewis is still the head coach.

Last year, they were trying to emphasize the passing (first) game, leading to not going anywhere on the ground or in the air. This year, their focus is the run game, with a step child passing game.

Harris could play a key role for the Bengal's defense. With his input, the Bengal's D could lower the Texan's yard per rush average from 1.6 to .8 yards per carry.

I don't see how. They still attempt a bit more passes than rushes.

168 passing attempts
vs
144 rushing attempts.

I'm not saying that the Bengals are the same team from last year but they've had 26.9 rushing attempts per game last year as opposed to 28.8 attempts per game this year. A gain of 1.9 attempts per game. Having Cedric Benson go off definitely helps this but less than a two carry average gain doesn't really signify a change in Marvin Lewis's system.

Their passing game has had 33.6 attempts per game thus far and they averaged 32.1 attempts last season. They're even throwing a little more this year. 1.5 more attempts. Factoring in the increase means that overall the Bengals are running the ball .5 more times than last year.

These numbers are pretty small changes. The Bengals have definitely improved/changed their defense and I think that's what's got them on their Cinderella run right now. Benson and Parmer are having great seasons but a large part of that has relied on risky plays. I read somewhere that they keep converting insane 4th downs! 8 of 9?!?!? Amazing stat. I also saw in the same article that the Bengals have lost only 2 of their 8 fumbles (Texans have lost 3 of 8 so I expect our lucky streak to end there as well).

If anything... the addition of Benson has transformed the capabilities of their offense but it's basically the same system as last. Benson has allowed Cincinnati to significantly improve on their time of possession but moving the chains will do that for ya!

Nitro, on the surface, it does appear as though there has been no significant change. However, last year, their unsuccessfull run first game plan led to the higher play from behind passing numbers, leaving them 30th passing offense in the league.

And what changed there? Cedric Benson. It's not a system change and that's my entire dispute with what you stated. You stated it was both a system and personnel. I really don't agree with you. There's no 'surface' here. The numbers speak for themselves. They're running more passes than rushes and the numbers are almost the same again this year. This is entirely personnel as well as the cards falling their way.

I'm sure John Busing has some inside information for us if not the same amount as Clark Harris for them.
