I think we should pull a play out of the '86 Bears playbook and let Mario run the ball in. He's a monster and might be able to move the pile.

On another note about our goal line offense. Why isn't Andre in the game on 3rd or 4th down? He's far and away the best player on your team. He's one of the top 2 WRs in the league. I can't imagine Bill Walsh taking Jerry Rice out in that situation. I'm not saying Andre is at that level, but personally I want my best playmaker on the field. He can line up as a TE if that's the formation you want, but seriously, why isn't he out there?

That's the one that leaves me scratching my head. Even if you want to run the ball in with Chris Brown, why not spread their defense out so you have less push at the line??? Or if you're going to bunch up the defense, why not fake the handoff and bootleg it to the left, where Schaub can try to make a pass play, or run it in if he has to? Hindsight is 20/20, but I hope they learn from this.

I personally was hoping for a run outside of the tackles with Slaton. He was having some good burst this last game.

I don't think that's a crazy idea at all.

Actually I think anything but lining up heavy, motioning a TE over and trying to jam it up the gut is a damn good idea. Too bad the only people with good ideas are on this board and not drawing the plays up.

I just kept looking at Miami at the goaline thinking about how great it would be to score from the 1.

Why not just qb sneak? If you are inches away, just qb sneak it....or draw play...or fake a run up the gut and pitch it outside...

so many better plays than putting 4 guys through the same hole

This. I was yelling for the QB sneak Sunday. Why turnaround and delay by handing the ball off several yards back???

If we can't punch it in with 3 chances running the ball we need to go back to the drawing board. Unfortunately, our drawing board's probably worn out by now.

The point is, we shouldn't have to rely on gimmick, pass, boots or any special plays to punch it in from 1 yard out. If we can't run the ball effectively, we won't be a winning team. Plus, we'll probably end up without our starting QB.

I have a crazy idea, what about having ur best players on the field? How many times inside the 5 have marvin harrison and randy moss been on the sidelines. At the very least the saftey has to cheat a step to his side and take a guy out the box. If u look at browns first td run, myers got blown up then and was in the backfield. I like kubes and all, but his loyalty to his stuff and failure to adjust bothers me. Always have ur best players on the field is a easy rule to understand.

I'd like to see a 2-TE I-back set, with Barwin at one TE position, OD at the other, Casey at FB, Leach at tailback, AJ or Walter at WR. They could do just about anything you'd want from that formation on the GL. Of course, they'd have to work that in at practice, but it'd be nice to see it.

Too complicated. How about putting 3-4 WR out there, spread the defense out and let Schaub decide if he sees something or pitch it to slaton.

Hell how about running a stretch play to get Slaton to the corner.

We don't need gimmick plays or Mario carrying the ball. We just need our coach and OC to finally figure we have difficulties up front getting a push in short yard situations. How about working the strengths of the Ol like their athleticism?

I had another brilliant revelation, no more Kevin Walter reverse plays. It's not new, it's not fooling anyone and he's still a badass #2 WR even though that play is particularly ineffective. Quick name the people that would make more sense to run that play Andre Davis Andre Johnson Jacoby Jones Glen Martinez Steve Slaton Ryan Moats Maybe OD but probably not.

Oh my god. Someone has found the answer. I was thinking this the other night, but was too tired to type it all up.

Out offensive line (whilst it ain't great at very much) do not specialize in, focus on, or even pretend to be able to be able to boss d-line men, and push them back....they'll focus on using athleticism to make the wholes, which we have all seem works especially well when giving Slaton something to run towards the outside, so he can make the cut when and where he sees fit.

Our offensive short yardage package often look similar to something like this:

TE OL OL OL OL OL TE-----
---------------QB--------------------WR (cue motion for no apparent reason)
---------------FB--------------------------
----------------HB-------------------------

Quickly followed after the snap by this:

TE OL OL FUBAR OL OL TE
-------------FB--HB--WR---------------
----------------------------------------------
-------------------QB----------------------

We don't have the necessary muscle to get the big push off against a d-line, so we end up with the never-gets-dull sight of full back, wide receiver and half back piling into the back of numerous linemen.

To put it politely, it just doesn't make any sense.

Instead of having three blocking receivers in there, scrap two of them. Get our best 'get up there and bring it in' man, AJ out wide, stick a solid handed receiver, like KW on the other side (why not even Dreessen, he's been pretty solid this year). That keeps their defense spread across the field, not concentrating on the middle. That way, if they're going to single cover on AJ, we can lob it up, and he'll probably bring it down, and if they're going to send more help out there, then we're getting more room in the middle.

That will free up room to play out normal kind of runs, and allow us to keep some more legitimate passing options open. Just because we get to a goal line or short yardage situation, it does not mean that we have to forget what style of football we play, what works and shoot ourselves in the foot.

I have to say that I was being somewhat sarcastic about Mario running the ball. I just want something less easy for the defense to figure out what is going to happen. I also want to see the best player on the team on the field when it matters. I would think the team would like to see him out there, too.

I kept yelling for the Texans to give the ball to AJ and let him run it in. The fact that he's on my FFB squad is just pure coincidence.

Lets impliment the swinging gate. Or even the tripple option. Couldnt do any worse than what we have now. But Kubiak and co are too traditional for that. Leave that kind of fun stuff for the Miami Dolphins.
