Jordan Shipley WR/KR/PR from Texas.

Consider me sold on getting this guy in the draft. Before, everyone starts saying things like we don't need another receiver. I'm talking about how he makes our team better.

A) Our QB seems to be coming into his own now. More weapons is a good thing, and Shipley can stretch the field.

B) He provides great depth at all 3 positions-WR, KR, PR.

C) After this year, Jacoby or David Anderson could be trade bait. Moreso Jacoby. Shipley still gives us that deep threat and the return ability but altogether with better hands.

4) He's had injuries in the past but he looks to be over them, and it could also cause his value in the draft to drop and we could get him on the cheap.

What round you thinking? He is an older player, if I remember correctly.

Not sure what he's projected to go in. Based on what I'm thinking, 3rd or 4th. To be honest I see Indy picking him up and Manning having a great end of his career with him. That's why I really think we should get this guy. He really could produce for us.

Here is some information about Jordan Shipley.

He will be 24 in December. That is a bit older, but not prohibitively so. I believe most of the guys in the draft are at least 23.

If Jacoby Jones continues to drop the ball, I would love to pick up Shipley. But I cannot imagine that the Texans will be able to justify expending a pick in the first three rounds on a wide receiver. The big question is where will Shipley go in the 2010 draft? Probably in the second or third round, based on what we have seen so far. If that is close to right, it probably follows that Shipley is gone before the Texans have are willing to select him.

However, the Texans should take a RB in the first three rounds this year. Slaton is a nice back, but it would be nicer still if the Texans had someone better.

That aint too bad. I thought he wasolder for some reason. I wouldn't object to a 4th or so, but no earlier.

We need a RB, but man, we need two new safties, a DT, a CB, maybe a QB to start grooming, and you can never have enought OL. RB is a need, but man, we could use an upgrade at alot of other positions.

His stock has kind of dropped over the last few weeks with many younger and faster WR's on other teams making names for themselves. I would have had him early 3rd to mid 4th rd before the start of the season, but the combine will sort all of this out. I like the guy, but the Texans need SS or FS/CB/DT/OG and not offensive playmakers.

Depends what happens with Kevin Walter's contract.

I think second maybe early third. Doesn't have a great 40 time but he plays the game fast and is a smart player. Someone is going to draft a heck of a football player.

I would hate to see this guy playing with Pey-Me-A-Ton .... I think he would fit in all too well in the Dolts offense.

There may be faster bigger stronger recievers with more upside in the coming draft but I dont think there is a single one who runs better routes or has better hands.

Anyone catch the double move he put on the Colorado DB last night just before the half ? That was about as good as you can sell a double move .... wide open TD. Toss in a couple one handed grabs and a return for a TD for good measure ....

With my luck the guy will end up in Indy or Pittsburgh ..... ugh.

This year's WR crop is looking pretty nice, so I wouldn't mind it at all if we picked up someone with a ton of potential to work under 'Dre like Demetryus Thomas in the second or third round.

If you are talking about Demaryius Thomas at Georgia Tech then I'm afraid I'm gonna have to disagree.

He has the physical skills but I just don't see him working out. The guy is in his fourth year of college and the only route he has ever run is the Go. He is going to be way behind everyone else when it comes to that area of development.

Yes, Demaryius. My mistake.

And, I agree that there are question marks because of his system, but he is also a plus blocker, has exceptional hands, and has fantastic size. He has a first round body with late round experience, which is why I think he would be a steal in the mid-rounds to develop behind AJ. Like I said, our WR corps thins out over the next few years, so now would be the time to take a project like Thomas and let him develop rather than drafting a rookie WR when it's too late and expecting them to contribute immediately.

For guys that like Jordan Shipley, wait until you see his brother when he gets to Texas. He is supposed to be even better. He is already committed and should be there in two years.

i dont know where he's projected, but it wouldnt hurt my feelings to burn a second on shipley. he'd upgrade #3 receiver, KR, and PR. as of right now i'd like us to go with a DB in the first round and multiple DT's in the mid/late rounds (o-line, d-line, and DB through free agency), and shipley would fit into that scenario. i'm no texas fan, but he's the "go to" guy for a top ranked team and appears to me to be pro ready.

I dont think he'd help us more than a safety, DT, or interior OL/short yardage back and I dont think he'd be available after we get the best players to fill those holes.

out of the closet, now that I've had time to re-watch some game film devoid of emotion

I would assess Jordan Shipley 2nd rd. material. He is an impact player ready to produce. Great receiving technique with soft, reliable hands plucks the ball like all the great ones. Diciplined route runner with deceptive speed & ability to create seperation off man or find hole in zone. Love his commitment to blocking assignments, drives thru to finish & is an elite returner. He is a max, max, max player filling #2 WR position & special teams. Would be a tremendous asset if the Texans could line him up Sundays oppossite Andre Johnson & open up season as kick returner.

I defiently put him into the mix for 2nd rd. consideration. Rick Smith really needs to earn his pay this year & find a way manufacture more picks (trade down/trades) the best way to do this is with players who are ready to roll now, maybe a little under appreciated because some feel they've reached their ceiling but who fit specific roles & upgrade multiple roster positions immediately.

I love the Longhorns but I can watch them objectively without a biased opinion. It drives my family crazy because I'll tell it like it is and it's not always nice things. Jordan Shipley though, has been one of the best receivers Texas has ever seen. Yes, I'm saying better than Roy Williams. Roy would become invisible against Oklahoma and in bowl games. Shipley shows up there the most. I so wish McCoy would've been able to play in that last game because Shipley would've easily had 3 TDs in that game.

Anyhow, I agree with your assessment on Shipley. Those were the exact same reasons I posted this and thought about using a 2nd on him.

Great post and I totally agree about him being better than Roy Williams was as a Longhorn. Roy was much more talented and had better numbers, but he was never clutch and as consistent. Shipley made plays in the toughest moments all of the time. His hands were way better and he was much more reliable. I think Quan Cosby was a better WR than Roy in his Senior year as well. Cosby and Ship were the two most reliable targets in UT's history in my opinion.

I've become more bullish on Shipley over the past few months.Given the fact we may lose Walter in FA and OD might skip training camp and would come in rusty early in the season off a torn ACL I think Shipley would help us maintain momentum in the passing attack.

With Jacoby inserted into the starting role and Shipley picking up in JJ's role on offense/special teams I think we'd have more big play potential in the passing game.... albeit to the detriment of losing KW's run blocking on the edges.

The rub here is whether Dreesen and Anderson can keep converting the 3rd downs for us until OD is back to 100%.

I certainly wouldn't mind us spending a 2nd on Shipley. People would scratch their heads at first glance, but they would come around when considering the possibility of losing KW and OD being rusty to start the year. It is imperative the passing game maintains its level of play in order for us to make the playoffs next season. A slow start would be tough to recover from given the competition for playoff spots along with our NFC East schedule draw. If it takes a 2nd round pick to keep the passing game rolling, i'd be happy for the Texans to spend it.

Jacoby Jones and Jordan Shipley for kick returns would be great, and the Texans could drop Andre Davis down a notch, or cut him all together. Davis is getting paid 4 million a year, which seems like a bit too much for a #3-4 WR.
