Depth Chart:
http://www.houstontexans.com/team/depthchart.asp

Summary:
Do NOT sleep on this team. Schaub can get the job done by leaning on Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels, and Kevin Walter. Steve Slaton can light your team up if he is playing well that day, and they have some role players on offense like Jacoby Jones that can hurt you if you do not plan for them.

On defense, the Cardinals are going to have to show that they actually learned from the mistake they made against the Colts. Mario Williams is a huge, huge problem for the Cardinals at DE, and he will man handle Gandy or Brown unless we help them out a little here and there. Not to mention Demeco Ryan is a force on the inside.
The Texans are the 2007 version of the Cardinals they are a very competitive team that will probably end up 8-8 this season.

Thoughts:
My thoughts on this game are VERY VERY simple. Are the 2009 Cardinals going to just talk the talk this season, or at some point are they going to collectively get their heads out of there asses and start playing discipline football as a team.

This Cardinals team has no excuse for thier performances as of late, EXCEPT for the fact they can say they had a short offseason, new coaches, and a few new cogs in the system. Well we are 25% of the way through the 2009 season and that excuse is gone.

If the Cardinals cannot win this game at home, then to quote Jimmy Johnson, "put a fork in them", and grab your construction hat because it will be time to "re-build (or re-design might be a better word)" for 2010 and the movement to future seasons with Leinart, Wells, and some younger offensive linemen.

This is not being extreme, it is being realistic. I have a lot of respect for the Texans, but there team is custom made to be dominated by a team like the Cardinals. When the Cardinals play to thier potential, they slaughter a team like this. Well, time is up, and the Cards backs are against the wall, it is put up or shut up time in the desert. You wanna make the playoffs ? You wanna prove last year was not a fluke ? Put the NFL on notice with a big win on Sunday. If not, then buy 53 name tags, write "Fluke" on them, and hand them out because that will be how the 2008 team will be remembered. A team that made it to the Superbowl, and lost because they really should not have been there in the first place. Which sucks, but that is what happens when you don't step up the challenge, when you are not consistent, and when not only do you not silence the critics, you prove them right.

By the numbers this is not a make or break season, but it is, in regards to the mentallity and commitment of this 2009 squad.
This is from their analysis/preview thread

Haha, yeah I know what your talking about and he is off there, but he also mentioned the bad things too... I think he was mainly just saying be scared cuz they are worried about Mario since Gandy and Brown are getting eaten alive... see here V

Mario Williams is as good as advertised and the Cardinals will probably leave Gandy and Brown on their usual islands. Williams is big, fast, and strong and he will win if the Cardinals donít throw some help his way. Heís got 2 sacks so far; donít be surprised to see the total grow. He doesnít play the run nearly as well and can be run at.

If Dougís sources speak of an improving Okoye and we know Antonio Smith has an understanding of what each Cardinalsí lineman strengths and weakness are.

DeMeco Ryans continues to be an underappreciated talent and rookie Cushing is coming on strong.

Their secondary is full of holes and question marks but so far have been better against the pass than most realize. Again though, playing the Raiders help.
Last year the Texans were terrible against the run and it showed as the Outsiders pointed out that the Texans gave up more yardage than any other team last year when the opposing offense had less than two WRís on the field.

In short, the Texans can be taken advantage of defensively but thatís only if Warner gets time to do it. They can also be run on and if the Cards want to win they have to find balance. Pass to get the lead, run to keep it and stay of shotgun.

But there was a guy that called Schaub just an "average" QB...yeah, IDk think he is...

Also, how weird is it seeing this in another teams forum..

it would be nice to keep their offense off the field as I am still scared to death of our defense we play great then give up huge plays, our D is about as bi-polar as it gets!

Hah! Yeah, I know that's why I say they are like us in a lot of ways....even their team, which is very inconsistent.

This is more of what they are worried about in another one of their threads....

Not worried about him at all, I am worried about Andre Johnson beating DRC for 2 TD's. Or Daniels destroying Dansby. Same bad matchup as the Colts with Wayne and Clark.

After you get past the one premier receiver (Johnson), the TE (Daniels) and the RB (Slaton out of the backfield) no other Houston receiver has more than 2 catches a game. (i.e. Schaub has not "spread the ball around" very much).

Which should mean we can double-cover Johnson and account for Daniels and Slaton in coverage while turning more pass rushers/blitzers loose to go after Schaub..

Hello? Walter?? Jacoby? Even DA?

The good think is Houston's secondary is just as awful as the Cardinals.
Colts-lite?...

I think what people see about our offense is how we can throw up 3 TDs in one quarter. Look at our win vs Titans. Down by 14 and come back and throw 24 points with 3 TDs in the 2nd quarter alone.

Outside looking in, that can scare teams who have bad defenses. Just like their offense scares us when we see they had a big enough lead on Jville, that they were able to play their backup QB in the 3rd quarter.
