Default Does this look familiar?

Isn't it interesting that no matter how successful a team is under a head coach, if that team is playing bad currently, then you hear the same cheap potshots from that team's fans?

http://www.titanstailgate.com/forums...ead.php?t=1606

You'd think Jeff Fisher would warrant a little bit more respect. But the similarities are striking. All coaches are going to speak coachspeak, and are not publicly going to throw their players under the bus. It amazes me how some are unable to grasp that simple concept.

It's the Universal Law of Fandom. If the team is doing well, find things to nitpick that the coach could be doing better. If the team isn't doing well, demand the coach's head on a plate.

We're fans.

Roasting the coaching staff is what we do.

I would imagine so given the relationship between the Titans and the Oilers.

His overall record says pretty average. 55% winning percentage overall. 3 division crowns. 1 superbowl appearance in 15 seasons. 5 season below .500, 4 @. 500, 6 over. Nothing that makes me go wow.

There are a handful of fan defaults when a team is not playing well.

Passion
Playcalling
Team Aggressiveness

Fisher in his 15 years has dealt with a change of city a couple of times, a crazy owner, the changing of divisions, dealing with Manning, the Patriots and the Steelers, the loss of McNair, the drafting of VY and who knows what else.

I'll take Fisher and his average record tomorrow, the guy has historicals that dictate he can overcome adversity.

Bill Billichick is the active leader at a .618 winning percentage, though there is a 50 game qualifier on that.

I am just not sure why Fisher can't be bottomed lined. unfortunately we so few coaches who even make 10 years with the same team, that there is little to compare him currently. Maybe look at Andy Reid???

So question, if McNair shows some silly amount of patience with Kubiak and he ends up with the type of record that Fisher has would you be satisfied as a Texans' fan?

I think that a case can be made that while Fisher coaches for one of the 3 or 4 worst owners in the NFL, he's managed to overcome that (for the most part). Consider the fact that the two worst seasons he's had were back to back in 2004 and 2005 where they won 5 and 4 games respectively. The first round picks they got from those two seasons were Pacman and VY (and the year prior to Pacman, they had no 1st round pick). In the three seasons following 2005, Fisher coached the Titans to a 31-17 record and two playoff appearances.

Essentially, the most valid concern I've heard about Bill Cowher is that he's only been the HC for one organization, and it's arguably the best run franchise in the NFL. How do you know how well he'd do if he wasn't in that type of organizational environment. With Fisher, it would be hard to find a coaching environment that would be any worse than where he currently is.

They have every right to be down on Fisher right now. An 0-4 record is cause for concern to say the least.

Some coaches can only take a team so far.

Oh yeah looks totally familiar. Ask to fire a coach who has never been a DC before? Fire a HC who has yet to get his team over the 8-8 mark?

Yep totally the same.

In fairness to Bud, Moon demanded a trade due to some personal things the local press had kept quite, and where now going to have to report. Things like huge payoffs to a girlfriend and domestic abuse. Any one remember Moon's wife trying to run him off the road with her car?

As for Bum, John Mecom the owner of the Saints had been publicly courting Bum at some local charity events, having him as his guest to these events all fall. This did not make Bud happy. Then Bud asked Bum to get a real OC and Bum refused. Thus a stalemate. Bum was out and in New Orleans like he wanted. And the Oilers started a long slide that took years to recover from.

Bud's not going to fire Fisher.

Fisher has had plenty of poor seasons as the HC, where he bounced right back the very next season and had a successful one. That's why he's such a great coach like Cowher was in Pittsburgh. Every now and then the Steelers wouldn't be all that great and would a losing season, but then the very next year they were right back up there. Fisher has done the exact same thing. The Titans were right where the Texans were practically when they drafted VY, and the very next season with Vince as a rookie they were one game away from the playoffs after like a 1-4 start with Collins or something like that. Then the next year they went to the post season, and last year had the best record in the league. They're obviously going to have another down year this year again, but I won't expect the Titans to stay down long at all, if history means anything with Fisher as their HC. Bud isn't that stupid.

One thing I have noticed though, is where is Flaming Sparrow? He's been MIA so far this season for the most part since week 2.

You should have seen the fire that Cowher came under when he took over for Chuck Knoll, wow you would have thought they had just punched your mom in the face. Cowher had his fair share of ups and down and steeler fans are rough when things don't go their way.

The steel city is about impatient as it comes, they have tasted greatness more than any other city and anything less is not acceptable.

yeah. I think so.
Since there are already 3-4 yrs gone by, that means in the next 10-11 yrs, we'll have six winning records/playoff appearances and one Super Bowl shot.

I might just take that over the "maybe" that comes with any coaching change.
