Just some odd & ends that have nothing to do with the game but interesting (maybe) to look at.

This is only the 4th time in team history that the Texans have been favored by 9 points or more. They are 2-1 in the previous 3, but 1-2 against the spread.
Raiders are 2-18 straight up in their last 20 games as an underdog of 8 or more points.

Houston leads the series with Oakland 3-1. This will be only the 2nd visit by the Raiders to Reliant where they're 0-1.
In the 3 games the Texans have won over the Raiders, they were underdogs in all 3. In the only game they've lost to Oakland, the Texans were favored.

The Texans are 2-3 in their last 5 games beginning with a loss to the Raiders in Oakland last season.
The Raiders are 3-2 in their last 5 beginning with that win over Houston last year. Before those 3 wins in that 5 game stretch, Oakland had only won 3 in their previous 15 games.

Texans are on a 2 game home losing streak.
Raiders are 3-1 in their last 4 road games.

Texans are 1-3 in their last 4 games as the favorite.

The Raiders are on a 6 game losing streak on the road in the month of October. Last October road win for the Raiders was in 2005 against Tennessee.

The Texans are 8-18 all-time at Reliant when the roof is closed. 18-15 when it's open.

The Texans are 6-7 against teams in the AFC West (3-4 at home)
The Raiders are 4-9 against the AFC South (1-5 on the road)

In the last 19 games, when Andre Johnson has 8 or more catches the Texans are 7-2. When AJ has less than 8 catches the Texans are 2-8.

I did a Q&A with longtime Bay Area writer Nancy Gay. She's the one that broke the recent Tom Cable hit an assistant coach story.

Check it here:
Talking Oakland Raiders with Nancy Gay

She read over the blog post and was very impressed with the commenters. If you read some of her blog posts, she gets some real nut jobs Raider fans commenting on her stories.

Jamarcus Russel's got a pass rating of 39 right now, which is the second worst 3-game start for a quarterback in NFL history. I'm wondering how much higher it will be after he plays us lol. Any guesses??!!

I don't think you understand just how completely awful Jamarcus is. He is a future punchline, Ryan Leaf bad.

However, you're post is somewhat reassuring so thanks for that.

I can't believe I am not going to go the best ACL lineup for a day (with backstage access) to see this possible train wreck.

Come on Texans, give us something to cheer about.

I've got my ususal 4 beer bets with my Raider buddies. They were pretty hesitant, but I gloated them into it. Everyone except my stepson. He wouldn't take the bait. I invited him over to watch the game on my 52" HD anyway. We'll see. Hopefully I won't be buying beer.

Russell's throwing mechanics are very poor, partly because he's too tall.
He can get by in the shotgun and by throwing short passes, where he can just rely on his arm to throw the ball.
His footwork is terrible in the long throw, that's where the inaccuracy really shows up.

He never steps into his throw.
In fact, he usuall lands on his forward foot flat. That tends to lock up his knee, and cause a high throw.
If they can get him to break that habit, get him to land on his heel first, it will make a whole difference!

amazes me he was a top overall pick. shows why the raiders pick in the top ten every year. physically gifted but really has no idea how to play the position.

Well, Phil Simms admitted he had problems with his mechanics for a long time.
And Montana didn't learn to make all the reads until later on in his career (the third, fourth, fith reads...)

That said, yeah, some guys got drafted too early to play probably the most important position on a football team.
