Default No Giants fans at Rikers for Plaxico.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/m...ayVNkiC518FR2O

And he thought Cowboys fans were nasty.

Plaxico Burress got a zero's welcome behind bars at Rikers Island, including taunts of "a - - hole!" and "The Giants suck!" according to jail guards.

"He was depressed," said one guard from Rikers, where the former Giants superstar spent his first-ever night behind bars. "He was trying to keep to himself, but everyone was yelling at him."

"These people got nothing," a second guard explained of the taunts. "What else are they gonna do?"

Burress began serving a two-year sentence yesterday for accidentally shooting himself in the thigh with his own Glock while drinking in the crowded VIP vestibule of the Latin Quarter nightclub in Midtown last November.

His stay at his first stop, Rikers, was brief. By 11 a.m. yesterday, he'd been driven upstate to the medium-security, 586-inmate Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch, an intake center where he'll be evaluated for more permanent placement elsewhere in the state prison system, said Correction Department spokeswoman Linda Foglia.

At Ulster, Burress was strip-searched. He was also shorn of his trademark goatee.

He got a shower, an ID card, an orientation session and his new wardrobe. That includes his hunter-green uniform tops and bottoms, a pair of black work boots, and a pair of white, low-top canvas sneakers.

His inmate number was also assigned: 09-R-3260.

Burress, 32, is in voluntary protective custody.

"He will be separated from the inmate population at all times and confined to a single cell," Foglia said. He'll only get out for three hours of recreation per day, plus his required meetings with counselors and medical and mental health staffers. He's allowed three showers a week and one visit per weekend, Foglia said. At 11 p.m., it's lights out.

With good behavior, the earliest Burress can be released is June 6, 2011, she said, after which he'll get another two years of postrelease supervision.

Defense lawyer Benjamin Brafman has told The Post that Burress and his family have employed a prison consultant to coach them on what to expect during his incarceration.

I feel bad for him also. A guy accidently shoots himself - Flesh wound, and gets two years in prison. Another guy gets drunk & stoned, drives, accidently hits a pedestrian and kills them, and gets 30 days in the county jail. a little twisted there......

I don't think he deserves 2 years in jail for what he did.

These are silly comparisons. You're comparing different laws in different states with different punishments.

You guys only feel bad for the guy because he's an athlete that you see on tv and you get to watch all of these interviews with him where he says he is sorry and looks depressed, but what about all of the other guys that do this same stuff that get the same thing? Where is the compassion for Bob Johnson who isn't a famous guy and gets a strict sentence for the same type of crime??

People get all hell bent over stuff like this because it's a famous athlete on tv, but this stuff happens every day where guys have to go to prison. No one seems to care when it's some joe blow from down the street that's a construction worker. Plex is getting exactly what anyone else would have gotten and it's good that he didn't get special treatment.

I'm well aware of the different states and different punishments, but they're still in the USA. In my opinion, the comparisons are valid and fair. I don't have to agree with NY on their guns laws.

It doesn't make any difference to me how famous or unknown the parties are in the accidents. It's an NFL player, and I posted my opinion in an NFL Forum. Point me to the forum or article about Bob Johnson and Joe Blow, and my opinion will be the same. Plaxico or whoever should have gotten a jail sentence of 30 days, compared to 2 years. You drink, drive, and kill someone you get 2 years, not 30 days. In saying that, I don't like to see famous people get special treatment either. Plax got what any other person would have gotten in NY, so be it. I still don't agree with either sentencing.

Honestly, I think it's kind of a steep punishment too. But in the end, "you reap what you sew".

NY's gun laws got a lot more strict many years ago because the crime rates out there were above the roof. With so many people out there in such a small amount of space, the probability for crimes are so much higher and when you get that many people in one city and state and it gets flooded with guns, you've got huge problems on your hands. When Guilianni came in there he cracked down hard on that city and really cleaned up the crime rates out there. THey got really really strict and made a lot of those penalties stiffer and gun laws were one of them. The results have been pretty good and the crime rates have dropped significantly. It may be a little stiff it seems in this case, but that was the law and Plex made his decision to carry a loaded gun into a night club. He lived there for several years, so he should have had a better idea of what the gun laws were and what would happen if he had been caught.

True / Understood...... Hey, label Plax or any other guy a Dumb-*** for what he did. At least know and obey the laws. And he sure as hell could have afforded some sort of concealed holster to carry it with, instead of sticking it in has pants waist like he did.

The penalty does seem harsh, but NY gun laws are some of the toughest in the nation. If he had done the same thing in many other states, the penalty would have been much less severe.

The penalty is harsh but he lives in NY, he got a gun in NY and the guy just had to not take it around town with him. Sucks completely but if you look at the Plax file he has a history of dumb moves.
