Texans are finally forming an identity and bond with this city after win vs. Titans

I am still so pumped and proud about the Texans win on Sunday against the Titans. IMO, it is far and away the biggest win in franchise history and saved the season and has given us the chance to get off on the 3-1 start that all of us thought was necessary to make a playoff run.

What really got my juices flowing was the way the Texans stood up for Joel Dreesen and were not going to stand being intimidated by Van den Douche and the rest of the a-holes on the Titans. The normally quiet Andre Johnson showed leadership and got in the face of Finnegan and said we are not going to back down. Eric Winston who is already one of my favorites on the team gets even more respect for showing leadership and toughness in going toe to toe with Van den Douche.

What this game hopefully has started is a love affair between the city of Houston and the Texans. At its heart, Houston is a blue collar city. Besides being very good, the reason the Luv Ya Blue teams were so beloved is that that team embodied Houston with its overachieving, tough football players who had a hard hat smashmouth style of play. Bum represented the ideal almost mythological Texan.

I have been a season ticket holder since the beginning. I have grown to love this team. Games like the one on Sunday bring out the passion and fire in me that I had with the Oilers. For my taste, the Texans have been way too corporate and safe. Sunday was so much fun and they did this town proud by embodying what this city is about. I just want the Texans to keep it up and show the same passion. I just feel this town is dying to go crazy for the Texans and they need to give the town a legit reason to do so.

Great Post! I really miss the Luv Ya Blue days and the House of Pain days where the fans could and would get really fired up about our football team.

I think we still have a long way to go yet, but making progress.

Kind of hard to have bandwagon fans, when the national media shows
our highlights as an illustration of what's wrong with our opponent. Last
year, when the Texans destroyed the Jags on Monday Night, the ENTIRE
post-game discussion was "What happened to the Jags?"

On sportscenter, after the game, the discussion was "What happened to
the Titans?" Here's to the Texans forcing 15 more such discussions about
other teams.

Here here!! Been on board since day 1 and finally starting to get bowed up and excited like never before after that win!!

The fact that this win came against the possum squallorettes IN bumblescum tinissea no less just makes it oh....so...much....sweeter! I noticed also that after the game, the highlights got almost no play for what was surely the best and biggest upset of the weekend. It just got skipped over and when I finally saw our game on NFLN Final Score show, they broke down every game after the highlight accept ours, just kinda moved right along. Then, when I did see some of our highlights, it was "what's wrong with the bumblescum hootinanies?" instead of anything positive about us. But that's ok, I love the underdog role, and I want this team to keep a chip on their shoulder and break peoples faces on the road to respectability!!

This is why the Rockets have taken this city back over again and haven't even won a championship. They play balls out every dang night. They were the only team to take the Lakers to 7 games. They represent that blue collar, overachieving, hard working, no frills/non diva (accept T-Mac but he'll be gone soon) down and dirty team with players like Brooks, Landry, and especially Mr. Battier!! Even if you don't like basketball, the Rockets play with the kind of mental attitude you would want the Texans to have week in and week out!

If the Texans keep up the kind of intensity, heart and swagger they played with last week and eliminate the dumb lapses on D....they will be full steam ahead on course with taking this city over!! BIG TIME!!

Loved how AJ, Winston, JJ, Mario, all of them stood up to the collective Van Den Douches of the tinisea tiddliewinks. Cortland Actinlikeadoucheagain may just shart his pants if he ends up on the Houston sideline next time!

The idea that the win over the tacks is an indicator of the remainder of the season is as ridiculous as the notion that the loss to the Jets was an indication that 2009 will be 2005 all over again.

The identity I want to see is consistency. Maybe we've turned the corner, but one game (kind of by definition) can't tell you anything about consistency. You can't tell if corners have been turned until you get further down the road and look back on it.

I don't know much more about the type of season the Texans will have than I did before the Jets game. I'm still optimistic, and think it's realistic (although far from a given) that we can be a playoff team. Beyond that, I'll root my A** off for a decisive win over the Jags and go from there.

Actually, the corners are getting turned around all over the place and I see a lot of consistency: we can't stop the run, we can't run, we can't stop anybody on 3rd down, and we always get 2 yards on 1st down. See....consistent.

Like I said after the Jets loss, lets take a look at the first four games as a sample of what this team is and can be. I WANT to believe that this is the game that is a launching pad for this organization. I WANT to believe the glaring issues on defense get fixed. I WANT to believe that the running game is going to get going. I WANT to believe that Kubiak is so frustrated and tired of the inconistency that he is able to put together and execute complete game plans.

Over the past several years, we have all wanted to proclaim certain games as the game where we turned the corner...and we haven't been right yet. The talk on the boards, coach speak, player talk...none of that matters.

If we are 3-1 at the end of the first four games, there will be enough body of work to know what we are.

I agree with the proposition about any fans bonding with the team solely because of the Titans win are band wagon fans, which houston is full of for numerous reasons pointed out many times on this board.

I expect us to be able to handle the Jags just like the Cardinals did last week. Especially since their already thin WR corps took another hit losing Troy Williamson for the season. Our team has similar strengths as the Cardinals and we should expose the same weaknesses they did provided Kubiak and the rest of the coaches get this team playing hard like they did last week.

Jags are set up for a meltdown season, they've got a really young team and there is lots of distractions regarding whether they should move out of J'ville so the fans aren't with them 100% (yes, both of them).

Wow......so, since I have been a fan since the inception, but have been dissapointed with results more often than not, and really liked that last game, I'm bandwagon huh?

Because I saw a team come back from a game that they showed no heart and then came out to beat our (or at least my personal) arch rivals in their house is bandwagon? I guess all those games I watched from start to finish cheering my brains out even in defeat and all the effing money that I've spent on Texans gear even during the bad years and never once even playing around saying that I'd switch teams or something and I'm bandwagon?!?

All those times here in this little city of Austin that I had to scramble out to a bar to watch the Texans play (and usually lose that year) because they were so bad that the local CBS affiliate would not carry them.....yup....guess that makes me pretty bandwagon huh? LOL

Never even watched a football game between 96 to when the Texans started in 02 because of my unwillingness to root for anything non-houston in the sports world and I'm bandwagon?

Small minded at best.....sophomoric even.

Winnig one game isnt going to start a love affair with the fans. This game will be forgotten really fast if they come out next week and play like they did in week one. If we can put togother a good winning streak the fans will come.

Well said. I don't think after one road game win you can say this team is forming an identity. Identities are formed over the course of at least a season. Until we are able to do something consistently.....this team's identity is still ambiguous.

Yeah. I've formed an identity with the Texans. That's the cold hard fact fact that we totally suck.

Seeing Chris Johnson destroy our defense... bleh. We're bottom feeders who willed out a great win against the Titans. I don't expect us to do it too often. I love my Houston Texans but I know what they are. I've watched them for 7 years now.
