Default Are the Jets that good?

Wow. They've played the number 3 and number 5 offenses from last year, and so far, they've yet to allow a single offensive touchdown. Sanchez looks like a veteran.

It certainly lead credence to them being good. At the very least, it shows the HC knows what the heck he is doing with a 34 defense.

Yes they are...People forget they were a damn good team last year......their QB just shot them in the foot down the stretch. They lost, because of Farve, not because of the team they have. Sanchez just has to play smart and they can beat just about anybody.

Well to be honest Favre was playing injured...not hurt but injured, but yeah his play was partially responsible for their late season nosedive last year, but he wasn't the only guy. Their defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd Down either.

Ryan has come in and changed that obviously. To hold the Patriots to field goals, is a mammoth feat. Just incredible. He comes in and they don't give up a touchdown on defense for 2 straight games...facing Texans and Patriots offenses which were both coming into 2009 with very high expectations.

The Jets look good and this time they have a QB that doesn't have as much wear on his tires so the sky is the limit.

GO TEXANS

Default Re: Are the Jets that good?

The other issue for the Jets last year was Kris Jenkins getting hurt. He was as dominant early last year as he was against us, but after he got hurt, the Jet run defense sagged badly. Before his injury in the 11th game, the Jets were giving up only 77 yards a game on the ground (just a tenth-of-a-yard more than what the much-hyped Williams Wall gave up in Minnesota). In the five game after his injury, the Jets gave up 132 yards/game on the ground despite playing only one playoff team (Miami) in those five games.

But even more so than last season, Jenkins is the key to everything Ryan wants to do. He can't unleash his exotic blitzes until obvious passing downs, so he needs to stuff the run on early downs; Jenkins is about the closest thing in the NFL right now to a one-man-run-stuffer. Once they've got you in long yardage, the offense basically has to guess right as far as where the blitz is coming from in order to make a dent in the Jet pass defense, so the odds are just not good. But they need Jenkins to make sure they get the other team into long-yardage situations.

Other than Drew Brees' flying circus, the Jet defense is the story of the season so far.

This just goes to show you what the right mentality can bring when a coach brings an aggressive attitude. They just don't talk a big game, they get after people. That and they were already talented last year.

Come on now CB, they didn't lose because of Favre. Favre played a big role in those last few games, but it wasn't all on him like you're claiming. Favre was hurt for one, and was still playing and Coles was absolutely atrocious in those last few games with the big drops he had in crucial moments of a few of those games. Their D line wasn't dominating people at the end of the season last year either. Their defense last year was very Jeckell and Hyde actually. Some games they would dominate while others they'd give up a lot of points. This year they have a lot more discipline and Ryan brought in a few of HIS GUYS and their a much better defense.

As soon as I saw Sanchez's first two pre season games I said he'd be a very good NFL QB. He continues to keep improving and him being their starter won't hurt them that much this year I don't think. They are a running team any way, and he's capable of making nice plays.

I'm not sure on that. He threw big time ints in games that they really needed and even said he hurt them. Again, he was hurt but the dropoff was huge once that happened. His last 3 games were 2, 2 and 3 in interceptions.

Favre said on Wednesday he felt like he was harming the Jets with slight misses on some throws. He said he spoke with the general manager, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach -- he didn't name head coach Eric Mangini -- but the consensus was to finish out that season.

I know Farve was hurt, (everybody in the world knows he was hurt, even children in India were able to watch the ESPN reports from his front lawn this summer reporting on his rehab) but it still doesn't change the fact that he was the biggest reason why they faded last season.....due to injury or not.

http://www.nfl.com/players/brettfavr...22&season=2008

All you got to do is look at his last 5 games (after the 8-3 start the Jets got off too) and it's painfully obviously that as soon as Brett Farve hit the wall with that injury and his QB rating fell into the 60s then slipped into the 40s the Jets season slipped away also. During those last 5 games, Farve only threw 2 TDs to 9 INTS. (that's almost half the amount that he threw all year)

Their defense with RR looks like it's going to be destroying opponents all year long. From our game and the Jets-Pats highlights I saw it seems as though his scheme hasn't been figured out yet.

At this moment the Jet's appear to be the best team in the AFC. If they continue to play like they have the last two games, they should be in a good position to make a run at the Super Bowl this year.

Yes, they are very good. I think if we see them beat the Titans this week, which i definitely hope happens, many more eyes will be open. Teams with attitude generally have success.

THAT good?

No.

Are they a handful? Oh yes. Sanchez isn't my hero yet. He's faced an absent Texans' D and a young Patriot D. Tennessee will be boiling over next week but if it's them or someone else...I think the key is going to be getting to Sanchez. The first team to do that probably beats 'em up.

Anybody watch this game? I watched a lot of it when the Texans game was at commercial or in between snaps.

The Pats D isn't what it once was. They play a lot of 4-3 now because they simply don't have the personnel to play the 3-4 anymore. Who's the captain of the defense? Jerod Mayo. He's injured, didn't play.

Pats offense. Who moves the chains for that Pats offense. Wes Welker. He's injured, didn't play.

The Jets are good, their defense is very good, but in week 2 most teams don't have to worry about playing without 2 of their top 3 or 4 players. The Pats did, and they kept it pretty damn close anyway. They really should have lost this game by more.

Usually when Brady gets blitzed, he goes to Wes Welker. Welker is key to that offense. It hurt them bad in that game. The Jets just kept blitzing and the Pats slot recievers weren't getting open like Welker does.

Yea the Jets beat the Pats, but your not talking about your normal Pats team.

Looking at the schedule today, the game of the year appears to be coming in two weeks: Jets at New Orleans. Brees against the Ryan D is going to be epic.

(To answer the question posed by the thread: the Jet defense IS that good. The Jet offense will be pedestrian, but that will work for them.)

I just watched the first half.
The Pats had many chances to score TDs but had to settle for 3 FGs.
A lot of close plays that could have gone their way, but didn't.

Best team in the AFC? No way will they be the best team in the AFC? Not with those WR's on offense and a rookie QB there.

Teams will eventually start scoring better against that defense. THey look like they are a very good team though. Ryan will be a very good coach in my opinion.

the Pats dominated time of possession that first half. they didn't take advantage of opprotunities when they had em. Brady marched up and down the field with 3 minutes to go in the first half.

i like their blitzing when most teams go to prevent, though.

I agree with you. That is why I said "at this moment the Jet's appear to be the best team in the AFC."

Also, other teams will start to spot patterns in Sanchez play, and then the game will become more difficult for him. The Jet's are not unbeatable.

But as of this moment, after the first two games, which team in the AFC appears to be stronger than the New York Jets, in your opinion?
