It looks like Rodriguez has some explaining to do.

I played college basketball in upstate NY and we're well aware of the rules as a team, as I recall the by-law of extra time being implemented right when I got to college. Initially, me and my fellow frosh thought it was a great idea, and one that empowered us. However, it was the antithesis of competition.

My freshman year we were a senior dominated team and did not need to be run silly in the preseason, but we were with no regrets, we had a 27 win season. My sophomore year the new team leaders attempted to use the rule to their advantage and it divided the team and staff. We only won 19 games that year, and it was a soft team winning on talent alone.

These practices are not vital, but they are an ingredient to success. Show me a player who ******es about this, and I will show you a guy that does not want to compete.

I see what you are saying and for the most part agree with you. If you have a coach that is so abrasive that he runs off all the seniors and the leaders that were there because they were not his players, this is what you get. Also, from the tone of the article, it sounds as if the kids are being pushed to the point that they do not have any time to study. Michigan already has issues with graduating its student athletes and has a perception of a football factory with students graduating without any marketable skill for the work place.

One anonymous (not a huge fan of anonymous quotes)person said he was getting text of asking where are while in class.

“The phone would ring: ‘Where you at? … You gotta come.’ ‘I’m in class.’ ”

This could be a trash piece on Dick Rod but I know someone who her sons went to UWV and she said that the practices their were insane and that the supposedly volunteer stuff were mandatory.

Honestly, this kind of thing goes on at every major university. Hell, I played high school football at a 5A and all our "voluntary" stuff was mandatory with no excuses. I can't even imagine how bad it must be at places like Texas, Michigan, USC, etc...

At least half the guys they interviewed for this story are former players, which means that they are probably pretty high on the list of people who have a grudge.

This should be a big deal, but I'm not gonna consider it one because I feel like the guys pushing this story are only trying to piggyback on the "Dick" Rod hate. This happens everywhere, not just at Michigan. If we are going to pretend otherwise then we should just dig a hole in the sand for our heads.

Michigan has a great reputation when it comes to not breaking rules as they have always historically run a clean program for years and years and years. Rodriguez may not last long in that environment.

I agree with that.

I've heard rumors about WVU's cheating culture going all the way back to Bobby Bowden in the early 70's. I'm assuming that's where Rod learned his tricks and I don't think they will fly at Michigan.

I think that program would be far better off with a more conservative personality at coach, even if he has less name recognition. Michigan recruits itself, they don't need a celebrity coach to draw recruits.

I thought Brian Kelly at Cincinnati would have been a better fit at Michigan than Rodriguez and I still feel that way. That guy is a hell of a coach.
