alright vinny, well if everyone is titled to an opinion, it is my opinion that someone that comes out and says that we dont have a quarterback, and we will never win till we get one, is not a true fan... anyone that comes across saying anything about anyone is not... i have constantly said that we need to replace men on the line if they cant perform, bring in people, let them have a position battle... but i have never said that we sohould just get rid of guys, and never given a substantiated reason for it.. where is the logic of saying carr is not a good quarterback

Ok, so lets say DC is on the block right now ... How many teams in their current situation would be willing to trade for him to plug him into the #1 QB spot or better yet, who could DC concievably replace as starting QB? I'll go about my picks the shorter way ... how many he could NOT replace:
TBrady - NE PManning - Indy SMcNair - Tenn (arguably) DMcNabb - Phili (arguably) DCullpepper - Minn (arguably) MVick - Atl IMHO, thats all folks Again IMHO, DCarr is probably 2 Olinemen & 1 TE away from doing something really special here in H-Town. I believe he has the tools to be a dominating & versatile QB for many years to come if/when he's put in the right situation.

and I think he could replace McNair.
Of the others.. the only reason he wouldnt replace Vick is because vick is the human hype machine and the falcons make too much money off him. Manning and Brady I think are better QBs right now. McNabb and Culpepper are better.. but id like to see what DC could do behind their Olines. it all boils down to the Oline with DC.. I hope we get a good Oline before his career gets prematurely ended. |

Grid, and all others, do you think that "throwing DC to the wolves" as a rookie, and him being sacked so many times has anything to do with the fact that he is not comfortable in the pocket and doesn't do well under pressure? I think we may have "shell shocked" him by throwing him behind such a poor offensive line and letting him taking the beating and abuse he has endured over the last three years. What are yalls thoughts on this?

Future, I respect your point you are trying to get across here, because I believe it is fueled by passion for this team, but I can't say I agree with you. I LOVE this team. I am a poor teacher from Denver, but I save as much money as I can to fly home to Houston to see a few games each year. However, I'll be the first to admit there are some things, and people, about this team that I can't stand (just take a look at my signature ) but that doesn't mean that I, just like you, don't love this team, and dream, and think Houston Texans football. Not trying to change your way of thinking, just offering you a different perspective. GO TEXANS!!!

np, Carr has a pretty long list of positives with only a few negatives in his pre-draft profiles. I do think that he has been a bit shell shocked here though (couldn't have helped early on), but from what I can tell he has matured very well (as a NFL QB) and handles the rush 100% better than in his first season. I really think he is going to have a huge year next season because I think our line will be much improved.

Maybe we should compare the first 3 years of Manning's career to DC's
Here is David's stats Here is Pay-a-ton's stats There are some glaring differences. Peyton has better numbers, but of course he started with an established team. The sacks are what really sticks out at me. I am confident in stating that the OL of Indy was superior over the first 3 years of Manning's career than DC's. Peyton took just 13 sacks this last year. I think we all know Manning does not have much for wheels so the OL has to be good. I still think DC can be a great QB given the protection. He just needs the extra second to get the ball off.

The QB has a lot to do with sacks and it is not just the line. When Rob Johnson and Doug Flutie were with the Bills, Johnson was sacked constantly, but once Flutie came in he was rarely sacked. The only thing that changed was the QB, his decision making, and ability to get the ball out quickly.

Until this last year I have always felt he held the ball too long as a by-product of locking into his first read. In the NFL you have to anticipate an open WR and you cannot wait to visibly see him open. By the time he got off of the read it was too late to check down anywhere else but to his last option. That means when teams roll the coverage to your primary read you either get sacked or dump to Miller (first year) or Davis (second year) and every option in between becomes a moot point.

No way Indy wins the Super Bowl in '06. By then, they'll have to go timeshare with Peyton to cover his contract under the cap. You know, 4 games with the 49ers, another 4 with Cleveland and so on.
