Clearly he's honoring Peek for what he did at Cincinnati, not for whats gone on since.

It makes sense to me.
Both went to Cincinnati and both were drafted by the Texans.

It is a bit strange, but I understand his reasoning. As long as hes not Peek 2.0, I find it to be pretty cool.

Sadly, I thought Peek could've been a very good player. I think he was lacking between the ears and not getting the coaching he needed to succeed.

As long as Schaub isn't saying "I'm honoring the number of David Carr" or Cushing saying "Jay Foreman was the man!" I'm ok with whatever they want to pick.
Love David Anderson's response. Smart move. |

That's the way to ingratitate yourself to the fans IMO. Even if that wasn't a factor it still worked out nice for me.

Maybe Barwin chose 98 becasue he wanted to be the first Texan with the number 98 that actually did anything worth mentioning.

I don't know about any one else, but these kind of articles from the Chron drive me crazy. Maybe it is because I am in Austin and don't get as much Texans news here, but was this really the best topic that they could come up with in the middle of training camp? Was there really nothing else to cover yesterday?
I am looking forward to an article about the origins of player's nicknames... |

As a UVA fan, it is still a little weird seeing Schaub wear 8 rather than 7. The "Schaub 7" is, to this day, a jersey of choice for many Hoo fans.
If Chad Stanley wasn't still on the team when Schaub had to choose a number, my guess is we would have gone back to 7 after the trade. But the last thing he wanted to do early on was cause a ruckus with a veteran teammate--especially an original Texan--so he simply kept his Falcons number. By the time Stanley was cut, the team was already marketing "Schaub 8" jerseys, so it was too late. |

I found that response strange as well. I thought he went with 90 because his college number was 9 and since he couldn't be 9 in the NFL, the next best thing would be just slap a 0 on it, I guess my guess was wrong.

Slightly off topic
See all this is doing to me is making my first "mid-week jones" worse than it was before. I got football last Saturday and now it's really three more days until Saturday night and more football. I'm dying here and already annoyed that next week I have to wait even longer to get to the Monday night game. I've looked up just about every Texans related story on the web trying to ease my sufferring. I'm already out of new Texans news! Just having a few things like this in the Chronic everyday is good and in a way it's driving me nuts! GET HERE NOW SATURDAY!
