Default You Got Schooled: Oilers fans still Luv Ya Blue

Quote:
Since retiring in 1994 after a dozen seasons with the Houston Oilers, Cody Carlson hasn't kept up with professional sports all that much.

Helping to raise three young kids and his job with the Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas keep him pretty busy. The former quarterback who was dubbed “Commander Cody” even admits that he didn't tune in to watch the Hall of Fame Game on Sunday night when his former team rose from the ashes as part of a salute to the 50th anniversary of the AFL's founding.

But Carlson was curious about one thing.

“Let me ask you something, when they were out there in those Oilers uniforms, did they look bigger and stronger and faster than we did?”

“I'm still partial to you guys,” I told him.

I'm not alone.

Sure, Texas is Dallas Cowboys country. It always has been, and anyone who's been to the Alamodome over the past two weeks can attest to that.

There's even a little buzz about the Houston Texans these days.

But as the Tennessee Titans took the field in Canton, Ohio, with oil derricks on their helmets and Columbia blue jerseys on their backs, it was hard for football fans across the state not to feel a little nostalgic — and a little angry.

There was no George Blanda or Earl Campbell, no Elvin Bethea or Warren Moon. For many people who grew up humming “Houston Oilers No. 1,” though, the game was a trip down memory lane.

Cody is a great San Antonian from Churchill Highschool. It was a reason why I loved the Oilers, it was cool to have a NFL quarterback right down the street.

Honestly, I don't see what all this "It reminded me of the Luv Ya Blue days" is for. The Luv Ya Blue days was established during the Earl Campbell era Oilers. Those blue helmets were long gone before that. It really didn't tick me off like I thought it would because I was used to the white helmets.

Titans fans are asking themselves "who is Commander Cody and why should we care?".

That derrick on the side of the helmet should have been a $ sign. That's all it was about. The people that lived that past have no desire to see it, and the current fans of the franchise have no connection to it. It was all about Slug Adam's greed.

Funny that they honored Ralph Wilson into the HoF on the same weekend, because he said recently that he voted no for every relocation and said owners that moved their teams to other cities only did it for money and greed. Here's looking at you, Slug "fat piece of crap" Adams. Ralph Wilson thinks that you're a punk-assed biatch.
