Default NFL Preview 2009: AFC's Okoye, Phillips and Sheppard Look to Have Breakout Defensive

Quote:
Amobi Okoye, Defensive Tackle, Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are entering 2009 with a lot of expectations.

If quarterback Matt Schaub stays healthy and connects with wide receiver Andre Johnson many times throughout the season, then they should be able to produce a high-scoring offense.

But that offense will need defensive support, and the Texans have a great young defense that could take several steps forward this year.

Last year, defensive end Mario Williams took the big step into becoming a stud defensive player in the league. This year, defensive tackle Amobi Okoye should also take that step.

Okoye is entering his third season in the NFL. He already has the distinction of being the youngest player to ever play a down in the NFL when he played his first game in his rookie season.

According to his NFL.com bio, Okoye played in all 16 games in 2007, and played in 14 games in 2008.

In 2007, he had 32 total tackles and 5.5 sacks, while in 2008 his numbers dipped slightly to 24 total tackles and just one sack.
