McClain said on the radio that Cushing was hard at work at Texans facilities every day leading up to the opening of camp. Apparently a few days ago Cushing was told he was going to have to leave because he hadn't signed his contract--obviously players without a contract can't attend training camp (nor would you want to as you're not under contract i.e. not getting paid to be there)

Cushing was pretty upset about all this and flew to LA to continue his workout regiment, which is very rigid and I assume some facilities in LA housed all the equipment he needed.

My guess would be his agent told him he's killing all their leverage if he's right in our backyard ready to walk on to the practice field.

I'm just glad all these contract issues are solved. Oh wait nvm...

Players are typically advised not to be in town until they sign. Agents tend to think it gives the team leverage if the player is in town and itching to get on the field.

I'm a little surprised, but happy, this happened as quick as it did. I was thinking he would miss several days with all the reports about his agents having the 3 clients picked in front of him and how they would probably get them signed 1st. Just glad it's over and the rookies can go to work. Now, I guess, Smith will be working on Ryan's and OD's contracts next! We need to keep them in the fold. JMHO!

Here is how it went down...Cushing reported to camp per Kubiak's request (letter) the other day and when he got here Rick Smith told him he couldn't check in due to insurance reasons since he wasn't signed yet, so he went back to LA to work out with Ken Norton Jr. He isn't technically signed yet but he has agreed to terms and is pending his physical. As of this morning the last I heard he was on his way into town.
