Default Will the Roof be Open Sunday?

Its pristine weather Sunday, high of 78 with no rain. Will the roof be open? I am kinda torn because I want the house to rock but it would be nice to see the sky once.

Zero to no chance. Weather was perfect for Eagles - high about 72, and roof was closed. Texans should pay back taxpayers for delta cost for making the roof retractable.

Why do people complain about the roof being open or not?

Do people look at the sky during the game? No.

People like to complain to complain.

Yeah, because there's no down time in a 60 minute game it takes 210 minutes to play.

Having the roof open is nice. And here's a fun fact, opening it doesn't just mean you can see out but sunlight comes in. The flyovers, parachutists, etc. Have been nice too.

But many fans and the Texans have become convinced there is a noise advantage to having it closed.

I can't even remember the last time the roof was open. It's been very few and far between since the Ike season when it was open the entire time. That was actually pretty cool. We were fortunate that season to have a lot of forgiving weather.

I am not complaining but its a totally different experience as a fan when its open, you kind of lose track of time like a casino with the roof closed. On a nice day its very refreshing to see the sun.

But on the sunny side can't it get pretty hot? 78 in constant sun isn't so nice to many

The Texans want it closed because they think it's louder (not sure I agree, possibly a tiny bit). The stadium and its retractable roof were partially funded by tax dollars. People don't like tax dollars being spent on unnecessary items.

I'm in the southeast section of the stadium where the sun Never shines and its nice and comfortable over there when the roof is open even when its hot outside. But because there is minimal if any air flow in the stadium, the sunny parts of the stadium are kind of like a convection oven.

The stadium is designed poorly in that regard.

I'm a southwest sider and we don't get the sun either, but even up in the 500's you don't feel much of a breeze when the roof is open. One winter (may have been Ike season) we were there with the roof open and you'd get some crazy swirling winds on occasion, but for the most part it was still and cold.

I sat right in the sun and generally I thought the complaints were whining. There were a few days like the Pittsburgh game that got the policy changed where the complaints were understandable but then the team totally overreacted.

The Pittsburgh game was brutal. I was the only one left in my section after halftime, and I was covering up everything I could. So I completely understand a policy of 80 degrees. Two things I don't understand: 1.) not adhering to your own damn policy, and 2.) the 50 degree lower limit.

That game was brutal. I could do with no lower limit and 85 as the high. Loved the Ike year with no choice.

But it's all for naught now due to fan complaints and slight noise claims.

I've got no problem with the roof being closed through October. November, December, January, I really don't understand it being closed. Even through the rain.

But I don't get bent out of shape when it's closed. I don't think "it's a waste of money" because it's closed. Just like if I were to buy a convertible. If I leave the top up all but one day in three years, it's not a waste of money because I always had the option to open it if I wanted to.

The last game I attended with an open roof was in 2011 against the Chefs, the game Demeco was injured, and this happened.

The problem is that thing was built with a sunroof, not a convertible top. Sit in your car on a 75 degree day with the windows up and sunroof open and you'll eventually get a little toasty.

Bingo. I sat on the sunny side for 4 years and never had a problem until Pittsburgh. That was brutal. Total overreaction since.

I think the 80 part of the 80/50 rule, that they apparently don't use any more, was perfect. It's not bad in the sun when it's below 80.

There isn't much difference in noise factor with the roof open or closed either. With the overhang the stadium has it's like there's a roof even with it open. That overhang is why there's no air flow as well. I've heard it just as loud with the roof open as I have with it closed. It makes no difference.

With it being Military Day, they might just pop it open if they've got some parachutists ready to drop in. That never gets old.
