I get flamed almost every time I bring up a DE>OLB at 13, these guys have Cody at 7 and Merriman at 11
I would hate to miss Baas by a few slots it would be nice to choose between Davis, HMiller, and DJ in the first; then EBrown, Ruud, and Roth in the second OT: it seems like we will be seeing more 3-4 teams next year possible candidates: raiders cryboys 49'rs romeo's team (if he gets one) anyone else? |

I think that Baas will fall in to the 2nd, but Brown, unless he has a terrible work out, will go in the first.

Why does that draft mock [like many others] keep giving us a SS when we already have Earl.....
Sometimes I just want to yell at these mock makers. [does the guy ever bother updating draft pick order..... Colts pick after Falcons? Jets pick before Chargers?] |

We have players at every position, that doesnt mean they cant be upgraded. Earl is a solid tackler but Davis would give us a playmaker ala Sean Taylor and eventually maybe Ed Reed if he pans out.

i'll tell you why, non texan fans see that we had a bad year on defense and our secondary struggled. they know we have dunta (not replacing), glenn (might be replacing), coleman (people know what he can do), so that leaves this unknown guy named glenn earl. but it doesn't make sense because if these guys are "draft experts" they should know who he is and how good he can be. we he do get him i wouldn't mind seeing us use him in different ways. put him as a blitzing safty or on passing put him in at a lb spot to either pass rush or drop off in coverage.

he seems like he could be a good player, and if he is BPA then id be happy to have him.. but anyone who says he is one of our major needs, doesnt know anything about this team.

Im sorry but living in Big 12 country showed me that Dan Cody is a bit overrated.
*kills chargers front office, preventing them from drafting Braylon Edwards*

Baylor, Texas, aTm, Tech. Yeah I would say all of Texas is big 12 country. But I agree with Astrofan that cody is not overrated. He has the size and motor for the NFL, and I think will be a good pick up for many teams.

Getting back to Davis, he could be like Dawkins of the Eagles. But he is not a ballhawk like Reed. He only had like 1 or 2 picks this year.

So if he isn't a ballhawk, then why would he be an upgrade over Earl? They both are good in run support and average at best in coverage...
The only thing I like about Davis is his versatility...He could play SS and OLB, but we could get basically the same thing in round 2 with Shazor...

Babin 259
Peek 250 Suggs 260 Boulware 255 Foley 265 Haggans 243 McGinest 270 Porter 250 Vrabel 261 Wong 246 those are just the guys that I can think of off of the top of my head according to his official bio he weighs 220 lbs and can only run a 4.55 (interesting that one of the few positions he didn't play at Randolph-Clay was LB "played running back, quarterback, defensive end, defensive back, wide receiver, punter, kicker, and kick returner at various times throughout his career") Shazor doesn't even hit 230 but he is three inches taller so maybe that means his frame can carry a little more weight I am interpreting their size/speed combo as what draws your eye Boomer Grigsby weighs 240+ and can run 4.45 for what that's worth with an extra 15-25 lbs how fast will these guys be? I like Robert McCune (245 4.42) from Louisville, but he's 26 years old I would take a day two flier (flyer?) on Jordan Beck (231 4.5) or James Kinney (240 4.45)before I use my 13 pick on an oversized safety to backup Glenn Earl and play OLB I am much more in favor of taking a lighningfast, undersized LB ala Adam Archuleta and moving him to safety than taking a big safety like Davis or Shazor and asking him to play as with an extra 15-35+ lbs I think that Dan Cody and Matt Roth would run circles around Davis+50lbs or Shazor+40lbs now on the other side of the scale we have DJ at 6'4" 230 I think that he would play inside for us, but he looks far from fully developed and could play outside at 255+ where as Davis and Shazor look like they are pushing the limits of their frame bottom line: Boomer is bigger and faster than all of these guys and a world class trampoline jumper to boot that's how I figure |

While I understand what you are saying. Honestly I think the only reason you look for bigger guys in a 3-4 OLB.. is so they can switch to a DE when necessary. like in 4-3 or 2-5 situations where they may be required to get up in the oline and do some hole stuffing.
I think what people are really thinking though is speed around the outside, and coverage ability. Which are the two biggest things in a 3-4 OLB. Still.. if he cannot fill all the necessary roles.. then he would be a situational LB for us. And I dont think we are at the point where we want to draft a situational player.. we need starters. If we wanted to take him to play SS.. cause he is the best player available.. then im fine with that. But I think we are otherwise set at SS with Earl.. and if possible, that pick would be better used on any number of other positions. It all comes down to BPA though. |

I will give up a little edge speed and pass defense for a guy who doesn't get dominated by an OT I don't think a 220-230 lb safety playing OLB for the Texans would be too much fun is what I was trying to get at on another note: do we have any sooner fans that know how much Dan Cody weighed when he came out of highschool (I know that he played a good deal of FS) and how much he weighed when he came back from his crazy time he seems like a 230 lb'er trapped in a 275 lb body |

Well, NFLDraftCountdown's new mock is up...
They have up taking Spears with DJ still on the clock...If this happened I don't think I would be too devastated... In the second, they have us taking Shazor with Elton Brown still on the clock...I would definitely be upset if this happened...Granted Shazor isn't a bad player by any stretch of the imagination, but Brown fills a more pressing need, interior O-line depth... http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.html

"After drafting rookie sensation Dunta Robinson in the first round last year to team with Aaron Glenn and moving Marcus Coleman to free safety the Texans have 3/4 of a great secondary, with strong safety being the missing piece of the puzzle..."
OK, this is one mock that is pretty well informed so far as our needs go, they just need to do a little bit more research and find that Glenn Earl had a good rookie year @ SS, especially when you consider that he came off of knee injury from his last year in college. Unlike other mocks which have us taking a DB (even a safety ?) with our top pick, this one realizes that the DBackfield may be our single strongest group (on either D or O). |
