"The Texans have signed their first draft choice, sixth-round pick Brice McCain from Utah. McCain, a cornerback, signed a four-year contract worth $1.8 million, including a signing bonus of $101,750. McCain was taken by the Texans in the sixth round."

Good start. Aside from Stafford any words on any other first rounders?

I am hopeful in 4 years we look back and say this was very good bang for the buck. I'm sorta hoping Quinn the Eskimo ends up a FS and McCain excels as one of our corners. As much as I like DR, it would be nice if we could get a fairly decent draft pick or a player for him in a trade if Bennett and Reeves could start.

That's a start. It will be good to have him signed and in camp, and add some competition for the DB's.
So I guess only McCain and Matt Stafford are the only signed 2009 picks.

On a related topic, I have a dumb question that I will just go ahead and ask.
What protections are in place for unsigned rookies participating in OTAs? For example, if I'm a first-round pick and I know I'm in line to make 10 million or more in signing bonus, I'm not sure how excited I am about running around on a practice field before I've signed on the dotted line and the billionaire owner has cut me a check. What would the protocol be for a drafted player injured during OTAs? How would a team handle it? |

Next question: does the insurance just cover the basic protections they'd get if they were already under contract, and if so, how do they come to an agreement about a fair price? |

Ha, now you're just getting way above my head. Maybe I-cak, Vinny or somebody else who might know can chime in and fill us in. I'd like to know myself. Good ?'s.

Does anyone know how the insurance companies depreciate the players values over a period of time? Also, do you think that players would have to carry windstorm policies???

I think I read somewhere (not sure where) that the Bears, I think, signed like 6 out of their 8 draft picks all in one day. And they only lacked their 1st and 2nd rounder to sign.

That should be a snap. Being that the Bears disn't have a draft pick in the 1st or 2nd rounds.

Beginning next year, Dallas players will be insured for falling training facilities.
