I wonder if the Lions would entertain converting some of our old Texans jerseys. Our own members have shown creative ability to do so in the past on a one-off level. It's amazing (not surprising) how many decisions, both major and minor, are made based upon "revenues." These shirts were given away for free, but presented as "genuine." I mostly find this amusing. Of course, I find the Lions mostly amusing.

I'm just curious if the players actually sign some sort of jersey contract. They have to give you one to play. Why is a player responsible for the jerseys if they move teams, etc.? - is that part of every nfl contract?

It's my understanding that the players themselves have no contracts that they sign concerning jersey sales. The jerseys are part of the NFL team "shared" revenue plan. Just like TV revenues are "shared" amongst all the teams, with 2/3rds going to the players (by NFL/NFLPA contract). The jerseys are a lesser part of the total revenues, but all the same, they are treated much the same. The teams have the ultimate control of the Licensed gear (jerseys included). Independent of individual player's "wants," wiith all these "change" scenarios, the teams are under internal pressures (their own management) to maximize sales, and pressured externally (the NFLPA) to do the same. At least this is how I understand it. |
