actually the Texans would have hoped Schaub would have gone with a number other than #8.

he wanted 8 because it was his number and he didn't care what number Scrub Boy wore.

the league numbering system almost forces this to happen since it really limits the options.

A number in the 40's would be more indicative of that. He won't be a straight up TE, nor an H-back, we're going to find out just how creative our coaches are.

Schaub was actually #7 when he was at UVA. Dogfighter already had #7 when the Falcons drafted Matt, so he took #8.

I'm speculating here, but I think Schaub, if he cared at all about his jersey number, would have chosen #7 after the trade, but Chad Stanley was still on the team, so he simply used his Atlanta number. By the time Stanley was released, the team was already selling "Schaub 8" jerseys, so it was pretty much too late to change.
