I wonder if Madden retiring this year will finally break the curse. You have to admit, its been a pretty freaky history so far:
1999: Garrison Hearst - Broken ankle, missed 2 NFL seasons 2000: Barry Sanders - Abruptly retired before start of season 2001: Eddie George - Started disappointing downward spiral and missed 1000 yards 2002: Daunte Culpepper: Injured, terrible year 2003: Marshall Faulk: One of his worst statistical years 2004: Michael Vick: Missed 11 games with broken leg, now in jail 2005: Ray Lewis: Not too bad. Numbers were down, though 2006: Donovan McNabb: Sports hernia, missed most of year 2007: Shaun Alexander: Injury + Major downward spiral 2008: Vince Young: Crappy year + look where he is now 2009: Brett Favre: Came out of retirement and had major breakdown at end of year

VY had a crappy year? That is an understatement. It should read "VY was benched during the 1st game of the season after quitting on his team, had a nervous breakdown, threatened suicide, and will probably never see the field again (at least with his current team).

I don't know if the curse is over but I don't want any of our guys on the cover.

Madden hasn't been in the games, so I doubt the curse gets broken.

Perhaps it would be fitting for Madden to be on the cover this year?

A part of me almost starts to think that they try and pick the guy who is most likely to have a bad year to continue the curse... Matt Cassel this year anyone? |

Madden still will be the force behind these games so with his name still on it...the curse will live.
. Put Haynesworth on it.

I think the curse worsens. The players not only have "stuff" happen to them, the "new" curse forces them into retirement.

Haynesworth is no longer in the AFC South. Put Manning on it.

Madden '10 should have a defensive player on the cover. They don't get enough love. (Just please not Mario Williams!)
My vote would go to somebody like James Harrison, or DeMarcus Ware. I really like Collinsworth's commentating, I think he will be the "next John Madden" when it comes to that department. |

Madden is the winningest head coach in NFL history. This, and his ring, are the credentials that stand behind his name on the football game.
I think Collinsworth is a good analyst, but he lacks the NFL success to put his name on a product like this game, IMO. (Not that it was ever a possibility.) |

I remember reading ESPN was eventually going to take over the game, but I can't remember where.
