2009 Draft Prospect Invitees

The only reason I posted this was because Freeman was invited instead of Sanchez. Very surprising to me.

Nine top prospects have been invited to attend Day 1 of the 2009 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 25, the league announced Monday. WR Michael Crabtree, LB Aaron Curry, LB Brian Cushing, QB Josh Freeman, T Eugene Monroe, T Michael Oher, DE Brian Orakpo, T Jason Smith and QB Matthew Stafford will be the biggest group of prospects to attend the draft since 11 players attended the 1996 NFL Draft.

Players were first invited to the NFL Draft in 1993 with Drew Bledsoe (1st overall pick), Marvin Jones (4th), Willie Roaf (8th), Jerome Bettis (10th), Dan Williams (11th) and Irv Smith (20th). Of course, Smith’s tumble late into the first round bore the drama of players fidgeting in the “green room” waiting for their name to be called. Maybe that’s why QB Mark Sanchez will not be attending the draft.

One of the invitees drops every year. Expect it to be Freeman or Cushing this year.

I don't even grade Freeman as a first rounder so that one is a head scratcher for me.

Freeman is being ranked highly because he is big and can throw far, not because he can play QB.

Freeman will be a first rounder. He will either get drafted at 15(Texans trade down) or in the 20's.

I also think that Freeman will wind up being taken in the first. I just don't think that he should be.

There will be several players drafted in the first who shouldn't have been.

The NFL FO might know more than we do about the Freeman over Sanchez thing. Maybe they polled NFL GM's, who knows? I can't think of another reason as to why they're doing it.

Sanchez declined the invite.
He wants to stay at home with family.

An invite for Freeman. Hmm, not sure about that. I'm not sure that Sanchez would get picked after Freeman to be honest.

Still, as said before, the list must be based on something.

Yep, there was something on either ESPN or NFLN about Sanchez and it said this. Couldn't find a link to it though.

Sanchez has elected to stay in California to enjoy the moment with family and friends. There is an outside chance he will change his mind to be in New York.
