Blurb in the Williams article today

The coaches want to get their four best linemen on the field. They prefer to keep Williams on the right side and let him rush in space against the left tackle, but they’ll be flexible depending on how the linemen play.

What do you think this means? Obviously McClain has heard something along these lines from someone on staff. Given all the talk that Amobi has to progress, does this mean there's the possibility that Smith could be moved inside to the 3-tech if he doesn't?

Does this mean there's still the possibility that we go RDE in the first? There's no way Smith doesn't start for this team given his contract, but could he be moved inside if we draft a RDE who instantly produces?

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it. But, this sounds like something McClain is relaying from someone on staff, so there might be something to it.

Sounds like what they've been doing with him. Letting the battering ram come from all angles and hoping he blows the play to **** or hoping he's enough of a distraction that someone else can do it.

I think he means to say that we like Mario against the LT, but we'll move him to the other side from time to time.

I don't think the coaches like McClain. Pretty much everything I've read from him this offseason is speculation or assumption. We already know Kubiak doesn't love the guy.

I don't know; he was wrong about franchising Dunta, but he was spot on about adding a LDE when everyone thought we were moving Mario and adding a RDE. And the verbage in the posted quote is pretty definitive.

The only staff McClain has as a source wore a oil derrick on their helmets. The guy gets out-scooped by LZ and Mark Berman on a regular basis.

I think you're definitely reading too much into it. Just saying vaguely they'll change it up to give teams different looks; at least that's what I first thought.

LZ regularly defers to McClain and often talks about McClain's sources inside the organization.

I'm as big of an LZ fan as any, and I don't have a lick of respect for McClain's X and O's analysis. But, there no denying McClain's sources inside the organization, despite the fact that they're not nearly as productive as they were under the Casserly regime.

But that's not what he said.

He said they prefer Williams on the right but will move him depending on how the linemen play. That means something more and different than switching the rortation depending on situation.

Maybe to you, but to me, it just means depending on certain situations and how the line is playing against a certain team, they will change their look to give the opposing team something else to digest. I don't think he's talking about a position change on the order of benching/not starting Amobi if that's what you're suggesting, but rather just a different lineup used in certain situations.

Mario in my opinion plays a better LDE and that shift from right to left end all game long is old and a failure . If Koller is smart as they say he will only do that stuff very seldom as a surprise even if Mario plays RDE . Does anyone have any thoughts on how good Smith would be if playing RDE ?
