Babin was very good this year. I was one of the people who was mad about the draft picks we gave up, he wasn't worth every pick we gave up, but he was worth most of them and in the future could be worth every pick. Give this guy a good d-line in front of him and lets see what he can do. I really believe that if we get a good d-line that occupies the other teams o-line and gives our OLB lanes to attack the QB that Babin/Peek will give the opposing QB's hell. And Babin was solid in run support.

Considering his draft position, the potential players given up, and the stated fact that he was brought in to rush the passer, yes, if he doesn't up his sack total to 8 or beyond next year he is a bust. The fact that he is a good tackler is nice, but the 3-4 won't function like a playoff team until the pass rush improves. I don't doubt he will get better, but he needs to get alot better. He did put halfway decent pressure on at times, but what this team lacks is a true impact LB, who will put fear into opposing offeses and QB's. Babin was drafted to be that impact LB. Time will tell if he is, and if he isn't then it was a hefty price to pay to find out, and may determine Capers future with the team.

You guys spend way too much time defining the defenders by sack totals. That is a little myopic I think. In Babin's first year at OLB he had twenty more (edited for accuracy) tackles as Wong had in the same exact position in his first year on the job at strongside OLB. Nobody notices that.

Hefty price? We gave up a net ONE first day pick for Babin and a couple of second day players. How is that such a hefty price? 7 Rookies made the team. How many more do you think could have made the squad? We didn't surrender a single future pick.

Letís look at guys playing LOLB in a few other 3-4 defenses. Earlier in the year I said his game looks like Vrabel's does. Statistically they ended up very close.

Steelers Clark Haggans had 37 tackles and 6 sacks
Patriots Mike Vrabel 71 tackles and 5.5 sacks
Chargers Ben Leber 60 total tackles and 2 sacks
Texans Jason Babin 63 total tackles and 4 sacks

I didnt realize the comparisons there. With a better DLine I think he could blow away his numbers from this year. Also if we have another MLB thats better at the line of scrimmage/can cover better then Babin might have more chances to go after the QB.

Are you saying it was Capers and only Capers who wanted to trade up to pick Babin?
