Default Tired of someone not getting credit and respect from US

I have been keeping pretty quiet around here to see if one particular person was going to get props this year. All I hear is about 4-5 people tho... Carr, Dunta, Johnson, DD, and steve (negitive for him). Someone who did a great job this year however gets ignored... I have barely even seen his name mentioned. Comeon folks... I can not believe you all didnt notice a new guy .

Lets see... 51 awesome tackles solo, 12 assisted including a few game savers. Four sacks.. 2 fumble recoverys. Four deflected passes. Played in 16 Games.

Not awesome stats but for a rookie, not to bad at all. Yes, he aint a Dunta, but he filled in a very hard postion.

Lets compare...
Wong (7 year pro)
Played 16 games
71 tackles solo, 20 assisted, 5.5 sacks, 3 Ints and 6 deflected passes. 1 forces fumble and 1 recovery.

Polk (5 year Pro)
Played in 16 games
25 tackles solo, 12 assisted, 1 sack, 1 recovered fumble

Anderson (Rook)
Played 15 games
9 Solo Tackles, 4 Assisted, 1 fumble Recovery and 1 TD.

Evans (3 year Pro)
Played 13 games
8 solo tackles, 1 Assisted, 1 fumble recovery

Foreman (6 year pro)
Played 11 Games
Tackles solo 53, 26 Assisted Tackles, 1 deflected pass, 1 fumble recovery

Sharper (8 year pro)
96 Solo, 41 Assisted, 2 Sacks, 6 Defensed Passes, 3 Forced Fumbles, 1 recovered fumble and 1 TD.

Come on folks..... not bad for a Rook... Give a bit of Love to Babin....

I think Babin did very well this year and was overshadowed by Robinson. He will continue to do great things for our franchise.

Babin had a great year. I was convinced once he made the open feild tackle on LT in the first week.

And while some still question the trade fewer are questioning his talent and productivity.

Jason Babin played very well (considering his new position), but still needs to learn a LOT more technique. Someone early on in the season commented on his "never-ending" spin moves...the game tapes bear this out. If the OL doesn't really have to worry about more than 1 type of move from you, he's got it made.

He's definitely got the potential. I'm still not sold that he was worth the price we paid in picks, but that's the normal risk / reward of the draft.

btw - Comparing Babin to Polk is a little misleading...Polk didn't START all 16 games, Babin did.

The majority of the tackles are designed to be made by the inside linebackers in this defense. Babin had a fine rookie year and had more tackles than Wong had his first year as the strong side linebacker. Most fans just look at sacks to define a player but Babin was one of the reasons we didn't give up many rushing TD's. He was a rock on the goal line on several occasions.

Default Babin

With another outside force (Peek or pick up), Babin will smash more QB's. Let's hope they improve the other OLB and move Wong inside with Sharper. With a year under his belt I expect more next year, he did good in his rookie season.

How about we stop trying to move players around. I think we've had enough with moving players to new positions.

I hope that this year brings more stability too, but we are just not great at too many positions. If we left the D like it is and Payne came back then I would think the defense would be 2 X better than last year. Maybe we draft a CB for nickel or a DT to rotate, but other than that they are pretty solid. On offense we need to get better at blocking, how we do that I don't know but it would take a smart player to come in here and start right away.

Those two posts are kind of misleading, since a lot of the things at the end of the year had to do with moving players around. One of the games wong played almost exclusively inside with peek outside and the defense was amazing. Then you had that happening the rest of the season. Putting Wong inside is not that big of a move around and he should be put there so that Peek can start next season. He can also groom another ILB that is drafted and can also still play outside as well. Peek also had a standout year like babin did, but he hardly got a chance to play. Together, if allowed to both start, they will create the havoc in the backfield that has been lacking.

All in all, Babin played the run better than I expected, and played the pass reasonably well at times, but his pass rush was a disapointment to me. If we give up multiple picks to move up in the first rd, and Capers compares the guy to Kevin Greene, unfairly or not, I want a demon as a pass rusher. That is where a rookie can indeed shine. Turn it loose, and let it go - ie, play on instinct when rushing the passer. Four sacks is not going to cut it from him. Before you say, ya, but he was a rookie, I give you Terrell Suggs. Also drafted in round one. He had 12 sacks as a rookie, and didn't even play every down like Babin. Backed that up with 10.5 sacks last year. Babin needs to at least double his sack total next year, or he will be a bust. Period.

Valid points, but keep in mind that Suggs was a #10 pick and was listed as going as high as us at #3 before a sluggish combine performance. Baltimore got lucky on that one or he wouldn't have been available to them.

Double his sack total or be a BUST? Wow strong words. I agree, comparing him with Terrell Suggs is completey unfair. We don't have the great group of linebackers they do or the famaliraty for the rest of the system like they do. You put Babin in Baltimore, I bet he could get 7-9 sacks, even with that awful spin move.

I think he came on and learned more as the season progressed. He is on hellofa tackler, and his pass rush will improve as the players around him get better and he works on some new moves. In the MAC, all he needed to use was that spin move.

Was he worth all that we gave up for him........well..........last offseason that position was a major concern, and we fixed it with a very solid football player. We did what we had to do.
