First: Let me say that I know that thins wont happen. The 32 team league is perfect for scheduling, and adding more team will even further dilute the talent pool. This is purely hypothetical and for fun, so have a good time with it.
Scenario: You have just obtained a large sum of wealth, and have decided to start an expansion team. It has gone through the NFL, and ok'd by the league. In what city do you place the team? And why? |

Easily in LA.
It is a top 5 city in populace in the U.S, and they already have a beautiful stadium in progress. |

And if that happened, it would be just like the Lakers are in basketball and the Yankees are in football. That is all the media would talk about is that team and the league would go out of it's way to give them special favors like it already does for Jerry Jones and they would want them into the post season as much as they could. I've already seen how both the MLB and the NBA seem to go out of their way to help out those big market teams and want them to be successful, and quite frankly I think that's a lot of BS. Just my little rant of $.02 |

Salt Lake City, Utah ![]() Albuquerque, New Mexico Too small. El Paso, Texas Too small. Virginia Beach, Virginia hmmmm....nnnnno. Wichita, Kansas Keep dreaming Wichita. Tulsa, Oklahoma No seriously, doesn't anybody know how much Oklahoma sucks? Louisville, Kentucky Maybe. San Jose, California Too close together Honolulu, Hawaii Hey, at least the East Coast will get a taste of the medicine. Columbus, Ohio Man, that city is so wrapped up in the Buckeyes it's almost weird. |

Its going to be tough to start from scratch in the South.... college football's roots are almost too deep.
I like the idea of Louisville, but it may be too close to Indy and Cincy to really gain interest from the people there. The best option may be Canada, but not Toronto |

my ranks:
Las Vegas, Nevada Toronto, Ontario Portland, Oregon Birmingham, Alabama Louisville, Kentucky Honolulu, Hawaii Omaha, Nebraska Salt Lake City, Utah Los Angeles, California Albuquerque, New Mexico El Paso, Texas Virginia Beach, Virginia Wichita, Kansas San Jose, California Columbus, Ohio Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Worst place ever Tulsa, Oklahoma San Antonio, Texas keep loving the cowboys jerks. I'd say the Northwest, the Desert Area and Canada sound like prime spots because of the lack of franchises. |

My top 5 are:
1. Los Angeles, California (explained above) 2. Birmingham, Alabama (There are alot of die hard football fans in Alabama, plus it's in the southeast where their aren't enough pro teams IMO.) 3. Las Vegas, Nevada 4. Portland, Oregon 5. Virginia Beach, Virginia (Actually alot of football fans in this area. I know recruiting in this area is big.) |

Wow, this is 3 in a row....except the cowboy comment. How can people still be fans of teams in L.A?The reason why LA has never worked as a market over the past 2 decades is because people there don't give a rats ass about football. They don't show up for games and they don't really care. Have you heard any uproar about no football in L.A.?No, except from people with money who want to force it. I'd put mine in San Antonio. Not because the city is my favorite but because they are a one team town that loves the Spurs and they love sports...see many NCAA tournies and Big XII games, bowls and Cowboy camps. They would build a stadium while you played in what they had and you would get a ton of fans. After that I'd put Portland up there. Honolulu would be too much trouble with travel and Vegas is too much of too many other things while not being really in a hotbed, at this time, of communities. What else is in the desert? And I love the city.

If we are going international (Toronto), I'd give a lot of thought to Monterrey, Mexico.
I'd also consider the Rio Grande Valley before El Paso. |

Are people's only problems with Honolulu the distance? Because I think it can be fixed. It is a 6 hour difference from the west coast. If they go there on Monday, bodies have more than enough time to adjust.

I share the same opinion as you do. Las Vegas did have WFL team once and it didn't go so well though.
Football however, is the sport in Alabama and they could really go for it. Oklahoma and the other Texas cities have to compete with Jerry Jones monopolizing networks. As a Texan fan we know that first hand. |

There is alot of lag. There has already been shown that teams with negative body clocks...going West Coast to East Coast, etc...have a hard time in those games. With 16 games and the out of division games someone from the middle to Eastern time zones is going to have to travel. Add that to the fact that Hawaii is a tourist state on most islands. Even the Bowl games and Pro Bowls there aren't full. You won't be getting much money out of it.

The only problem though would be the fact that so many fans over there root for the Cowboys and if the team got off to a real rough start like the Texans have a lot of those fans might jump ship right back onto the Cowboys. I'm not sure exactly how well a lot of those fans would do with adversity when a lot of them have been life long Cowboys fans and might want to keep their loyalties with them. If they did pretty well though early on like the Panthers and the Jags did, then they could possibly be a really good city for a team. |
