Let's say we switched 1st, picked up a third and maybe a pick (depending on what the chart says) later in this draft.........
1) Alex Mack (Center/ Guard) He may be the best OL in the draft. He just doesn't play LT. He would improve our OL from day one. The better our line is... the better our QB and RBs are. 2) Chung (SS) The staff is comfortable with our current FS (resigned).... But I think this guy could uprgrade our SS position and start the first game for us. 3a) Jennings (RB) I like Shon Greene but I think this guy is the big bruiser we could use with Slaton. I think that it is realistic that he is here in the draft. The only knock on him is the competition he played against. But the circumstances that led him to Liberty are different than most guys who transfer to smaller schools. I like the idea of this guy in a Texans uniform. 3b) Gerald McRath (OLB) Southern Miss... Played ILB in college. He is a player. I think he has the ability to get to the ball. He has the ability to compete for a starting job once he gets thru the learning curve (Switching to OLB). 4a) Domonique Jackson (CB) Jackson State ... Small school player with big time tools. Transfered out of Mizzou....Honest 4.45-4.5 speed. 6'1 190lbs. Worth a shot here. 4b) Roy Miller (DT/NT) Yes. For all the Aggies, I am a Longhorn fan, BUT....I think this guy could help the rotation. Heart is not an issue with him. He is a 300lb NT ( as oppossed to a 340lb nt). If he were bigger, he would be drafted higher. He played against the best and beat the best. Ask the number one OG Duke Robinson from OU. Farther down the draft than this is a crapshoot. Just pick a kid with some ability and be a team player. Someone who is coachable. Others I really like: 1st rd 1)Clay Matthews. I am on board this bandwagon. 2) Vontae Davis and Malcolm Jenkins ..They could help... 3) If Dumbo (Smith LT Alabama) falls to us....I would think about it. 4) I am starting internet rumors about Brian Arakpo right now. Imagine if all he had to do 15 snaps a game.... was rush the passer???? 2nd rd Max Unger C/G Darius Butler CB....DJ Moore CB...Alphonso Smith CB Robert Ayers DE....Conner Barwin DE....Paul Kruger DE Jarron Gilbert as a DE( NOT DT) Long time Lurker and had a few minutes to write down some stuff... I enjoy the board..........mark |

I think if we were able to trade down to the early 20s for an extra 3rd, I wouldn't mind something like the following:
1st: Clay Matthews, Clint Sintim, or Sean Smith 2nd: William Moore, Louis Delmas, Patrick Chung 3rd: Rashad Jennings, Shonn Greene, a compliment RB 3rd: Lawrence Sidbury, another pass rusher, or zone-blocking C/G I am hoping the first two picks are used to add a physical, hard-hitting element to our defense. |

He has experience there from college and IIRC, he had trouble turning his hips and covering backs during the Senior Bowl practices. I like him, I just don't think he fits us. |

Not sure the Texans will go that route, but I wouldn't mind picking up any of the players you have here. It looks like it would be a solid draft. Good job and welcome to the boards!

If you want to trade down, and Matthews is your target; you have to wind up in front of New England at 23.
Best bet might be if one of the QBs drop and you can work a trade with the Jets who sit at 17; or the Lions at 20 (if they have not taken a QB at 1). |

I'm agreeing with Roy Miller. I see how reports are saying we like this Peria Jerry guy but Roy Miller is just as tough and will come alot cheaper. Roy Miller can come in right away and start challenging TJ for his spot. You mix that in with some DelJaun Robinson, and you got a heck of a rotation.

Good points. I think we need to get out of this draft with Levitre and yes, CM3 only in a trade down scenario.

I like Unger so much have him going to the Steelers..... in the first round.... Prefect fit. C/G/T is a lot more accurate. he covers four of the five o-line positions. If you want Barwin or Gillbert, you'd have to move down to be sure...Miami, and New England should both covet Barwin.....Gilbert would be perfect to groom behind Seymour. your mock and all....the only thing our assistant head coach-offense line would do with Andre Smith is shoot him on sight out of mercy. Never in his history has he taken a fat boy. Ayers could slip all the way to eleven. He's hot and getting hotter. Be a nice pick for the Texans at fifteen. So, you bringing Cory Boyd off the streets to back up Steve Slaton ?

"If you're thinking like everyone else, you're not thinking." Mike Lombardi. Round 1. 20 what ever Conner Barwin OLB Cincinnati Bear Cats 46. Louis Delmas FS W. Mich. 79 Eric Wood C/G Louisville 85. Corry Sheets RB Purdue 108 Terence Knighton NT Temple 118 Josh Munga LB Nevada 144 David Viekune DE Hawaii 175 Quinn Johnson FB/TE LSU 206 Stephen McGee QB Texas A & M Everyone of my defensive guys can run and tackle. I took one guy to back up the interior of the o-line. Untill I see differently, we got a red zone problem. Woods gives you some back up for Pitts contract coming up. See Jason Peters and the Bills. Pray to God they are correct about Butler. Knighton fits what they want to do....go back and watch him in the combine drills...He ain't Brace....he's a better athlete than Ron Brace. Knighton is a penetrating, get up the feild, Keep guys off the LBs defensive tackle. And at the position, a dang cheap fire to light under Travis Johnson and Okoye and Okam. the kid is hungry and will push them all. I'm assuming here they can coach up the high pad level play just like they did with Mario. I took two guys to support, not replace Steve Slaton. Sheets gives them a carbon copy of Slaton...except the power between the Tackles....He is your third down specailist. If it's close Quinn Johnson gives you some punch at the goal line and in short yardage situations. In both of those situation....short yardage/Goal line and third and long Sheets and Quinn you have the option of pulling Slaton for a blow. Venkune is situational back up for antoinio smith. If Adibi and Diles are healthy I'm not to sure I wouldn't take Antonio and Diles out and Bring in Delmas and Barwin with his knuckles on the ground. Got six months to teach McGee enough to come in with two guys down and run enough offense to give you a 40-60 chance of winning. A toy for Gary Kubiak.

All of our major need positions:
RB, interior OL run stuffer pass rusher specialist Safety are positions teams can generally find the middle rounds. This year, the draft is extemely deep but not very top-heavy. I think the Texans need to view a trade down as its, first and best option going into the draft. Even if they have to take 80 cents on a dollar to do it. In other words, if they can only get a 3rd and a 6th in order to trade down 10 spots, they should do it anyway. IMO, I don't see a dropoff in talent, certainly not at our need positions, from 15 to 25. Then, after picking at 25, we'd still have a 2nd, 2 3rds, 2 4ths, and a 5th.... that's really want I want to see happen. |

Thanks for the replies.
I think we are likely to see a draft like last year. A draft where we trade down and then draft a "reach" in the first. Following this logic, I think these would be an option. Mack, Unger, Chung, Barwin, Sintim, Sean Smith, Ayers(i think he may be gone @15-some think he is 3rd rd material). There are so many players I want in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I hope the trade down does happen even if we draft one of the so called "REACH" players in the first.

If we can trade down and pick up Alphonso Smith in the first and William Moore with our second that would be ideal for me. If we stay put in the first going after Vontae Davis would be fine, as long as he doesn't pac-man jones his way out of the league. Our best corner was ranked 47th overall in the nfl. That means, on average, almost half the teams in the league have 2 corners better than our best. That needs to be fixed.
Then we take a big DT like Dorell Scott or C like Luigs or Caldwell in the 3rd. There will be plenty of decent big rb's in the 6th-udfa to worry about them early, or we can draft a running fullback like Frank Summers in the 7th. |

Looks good to me, I wouldn't be overly thrilled but I wouldn't complain either.
4a) Domonique Jackson (CB) Jackson State ... Small school player with big time tools. Transfered out of Mizzou....Honest 4.45-4.5 speed. 6'1 190lbs. Worth a shot here. This sounds like a Smithiak pickup if I've ever heard one. Right in the mold of Bennett/Molden |

I'm all for Alex Mack. I've been pimping him for the last month. He would be a huge upgrade to our ol. We get blown up in the middle way too much. He could be the Texans center for the next 10 years. He is about as close to a sure thing as you can get.
I realize we need defense but if nothing is there then we can't force it or we end up drafting another Travis Johnson or Jason Babin. |

Our "best" corner was out most of the season with a leg inury, and very likely never played a game last year at 100%. |
