I don't think he cares but it will be a good challenge for him.

I think Tra Thomas will be more worried about Mario, than Mario of him.

Thomas allowed 2.5 sacks last year.

Isn't this guy like 35? There will be a top LT at #8... I'm kind of confused by this move.

Yeah. This isn't where I expected Tra Thomas to end up. Unless they're going to get both and allow the younger guy to learn under Tra Thomas or something. I guess having all their Oline get injured last year really scared them. They're going to stock up this time around.

They need help in other areas, though. So I wouldn't expect them to sign this guy, then draft his backup, or vice versa.
Maybe they grab Crabtree if he lasts, or hop on Maclin? Maybe they get a CB after the Drayton Florence disaster? |

Del Rio has been really bad about picking WR's. Crabtree could drop to him but aren't the Jags really missing a guy that's going to stretch the field? Not that Crabtree wouldn't upgrade their WR corp, isn't he kinda the same mold of a lot of the guys they already have? |

Solid move by the Jaguars. Not necessarily a long term solution for the LT position but the move will give the Jags' OL stability and their coaching staff an ample opportunity to find a long term solution. Who knows, maybe as Thomas ages and they find a viable alternative, Thomas could move to RT and maybe get an extra few years out of his career at Tackle.
If I was a Jags fan I would be happy that they addressed a need and filled it even though it was costly and even risky to do so. They were beset with injuries last year and if those guys come back and Thomas adds to the mix, you could see their OL going from a weakness to a strength in one offseason.

If I'm not mistaken, MJD wants a better contract too or it's up after this season or something like that. This draft has quite a few RBs that could go high. With Fred gone, they need a back up. Maybe this allows them to go after a RB or WR.

Another aspect of this move is that the Eagles have now lost 3 Pro Bowl starters including 2 of their starting OL. McNabb is not happy about this and the Eagles need McNabb to restructure or he could be traded.
I could see Cutler and McNabb both having new teams next year and the Tra Thomas deal only increases the chance that McNabb is gone in Philly.

Prior to this move the Jaguars had Jordan Black as the starting LT on the depth chart. This move doesn't preclude them from drafting a LT at #8, but it allows them greater flexibility and doesn't pigeon-hole them into having to take a LT at #8. In that way, it is similar to our signing of Antonio Smith.
