I've read two different sites that have the 3rd year option messed up. I think rotoworld and nfl? Can't remember.

One said average of top 5 cornerbacks or the $16M, whichever is greater. The other had quarterbacks bolded and italicized as to point out it wasn't a typo. Pretty interesting.

I like that the details were out to the public so fast. It's kind of a complicated deal but at the same time its fairly straightforward or easy to follow. At least how it's being reported.

I remember during the Schaub trade they had the trade as only a 2nd round pick for a while. I was ecstatic. It wasn't until that evening or the next morning that we found out it was the two 2nds.

No, that's the great thing about the "non-exclusive" tag. It's based on the previous year's salary. The "exclusive" tag would be based on the current year.

Actually it is a 3 year deal that if certain areas are met it turns into a 6 year deal. So it is both.

I think it actually reads as a 2-year deal. Oakland has the option of a 3rd if they're willing to pay up more. Oakland is only on the hook for 2 years though.

Of all the b.s. contracts the Raiders have handed out over the years, this one makes the most sense. If Asomugha has Andre Johnson's approval, the guy is worth the money.

No, but it does raise the market price on corners, as it helps the players in contract negotiations.....

As a negotiating point it is arguable. As a practical matter, no. The non-exclusive tag set on Dunta gets the average of the top 5 from the immediately past NFL year. The exclusive tag gets the average of the top 5 at the position from the coming season. So if the Texans had exclusive tagged Dunta, Asomugha's deal absolutely would have raised the cost.
