I dunno, but just another reason that illustrates IMO that the front 7 of the
3-4 is less difficult to stock with personnel than the 4-3.

We should just trade our number 1 for Peppers. He is better than any of the De's in this draft.

After looking at how things should fall, I dont like any of our options around 15. I'm not a huge fan of the later 1st round prospects, so why not make potentially one of the best bookend combo's ever?

Because we wants to be a 3-4 OLB, he'll cost an ass-load, and he's nearly 30.

I think your first 2 points are good ones, but a DE being 30 doesnt really mean anything to me. Reggie White signed with the Packers after 8 years with the Eagles at age 31-32. He led them to 2 superbowls in 6 years and won one of them.

I think runningbacks, cornerbacks, wideouts, and anyone that relies on speed alone have a shorter NFL life than a QB, OL, DL.

He'll be ok with being the weakside end opposite Mario. I am normally opposed to trading picks, but this 1st round is so underwhelming that I want to trade back at almost every chance. Last I checked he's 28. He easily has 4 more years in him at a high quality. Sounds like a winner. As a plus, a little attention nationally never hurt anyone.

He's 29, and had said several times that he wants to be the rush backer in a 3-4; so I have no idea where you are getting the notion that he would be ok being a 4-3 end.

Also he wouldn't cost any draft picks unless the Panthers tag him again, and that would cost them about 17 million.

the Texans focus should be on Krueger, Ayers or Sidbury, just not in 1st round.

I don't look at Jackson as a 4-3 DE at all. I really like Sidbury though. I think Orakpo will be drafted by a 4-3 team as a DE. Brown is incredibaly overrated and is strictly a 3-4 OLB (IMO). Maybin has an underdeveloped frame, meaning there is good room for growth. I just really hate how overrated Brown is as a prospect for all teams, especially us.

my guess is that either Sanchez Maclin or Moreno/ Wells (depending on which one comes out as the number 1 RB) is still left when we pick and somebody will want to jump ahead of SD (for the RB) or NYJ (for the QB) and Smith will trade back to the late twenties and pick up Kruger Mack or Duke Robinson... maybe im mixing up guessing with what i actually want to happen...

The good thing about Peppers is you don't need to trade a thing to get him as he is a free agent, but Peppers is probably going to cost too much in an open market with a no-cap 2010.

but on your point, I wouldn't mind trading our 1st Round pick for the right defensive veteran as the defensive talent on the DL and DB is pretty light on first round talent. Lots of good OL talent though..especially at OT.

I believe that we should try one of two options. They are as follows

1.You trade for Julius Peppers straight up with the Panthers. Don't know what you would have to give up besides the 1st round pick but it is worth it. Helps D-Line and D-Fence as whole. Here are some quotes from Peppers and/or his agent.

He could do this with Mario on the other side plus our new agressive, attack style defensive system.

2. If he really desides that he just doesn't want to come to Houston or really does want to try to be a 3-4 OLB then we could possible pull off a 3 team deal with Car. and GB. In this deal GB would get Peppers and we would get Aaron Kampman who most would agree is not a good fit in a 3-4 system. Again what we would have to give up is unknown besides our 1st round pick.

You CANNOT trade for Peppers unless he gets tagged by the Panthers, and since it would cost the franchise 17 million to tag Peppers it isn't likely to happen.

I say the 1st if they franchise him. If a FA, I would be ok with then trading up, since that takes a huge need off of your board. Curry would be my target.

You could have a sign and trade deal also that would allow for him to go somewhere and that team not have to spend the 17 Million. He would more than likely give another team a break to get out of Carolina.

Mel Kiper's latest mock draft has the Bears selecting Tyson Jackson (6-4, 295),the LSU defensive end, with the No. 18 overall selection. NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock would call that a good choice.

"The highest-rated, pure defensive end in the draft will probably be Tyson Jackson," Mayock said. "He's a first-round type of guy. I think he's going to go somewhere between 10 and 20."

Defensive end is one of the Bears' priorities. The Bears are coming off a 28-sack season, a rather low number considering NFL sack leader DeMarcus Ware had 20 by his lonesome. The Bears were 29th in the league in sacks per pass play.

True, former Detroit Lions coach Rod Marinelli was hired to help inspire the defensive line, but there's no guarantee Adewale Ogunleye will respond with a great season—although he will be in a contract year. Where one-year wonder Mark Anderson fits into the team's plan remains unknown.

Many are intrigued by local product Larry English (6-2, 254) from Northern Illinois, whose stock continues to rise. But the pass-rush specialist is not the right type of player for the Bears.

"He doesn't really fit what the Bears are," Mayock said. "The Bears are a 4-3. Larry English is going to be a 3-4 rush linebacker."

Those types of players appear to be the new fad.

"When you talk about a 4-3 front, this is not a great year," Mayock continued. "When I listed my top 5 defensive ends, four of them are going to become rush linebackers.

"The disappointment for me was that Michael Johnson from Georgia Tech elected not to play in the Senior Bowl. He probably has as much talent as any kid in the country, but there's a lot of bad tape on him from his senior year. I wouldn't be surprised if someone falls in love with him. The kid's going to blow the combine up. At 6-foot-7, 265, he looks beautiful. He runs beautiful. I just don't like him on tape. And there are some guys out there that are not first-round picks but are good football players."

Mayock singled out Tennessee's Robert Ayers (6-3, 270) as one of those guys.

"He had a great week at the Senior Bowl," Mayock said. "He's a little light for defensive end, but he's a second, third-round player that is explosive off the edge. Very tough.

"Paul Kruger (6-5, 265), the junior from Utah, he's worth watching. And two more names that would fit what the Bears would do are Will Davis (6-2, 262) from Illinois and Michael Bennett (6-4, 271) from Texas A&M."
